Trying to make distinctions like this gets you back to "figuring out how you were owned", i.e. determining the transmission vectors and threats. The reality is that decoders for complex file formats often have buffer overrun and c

I assume you are surprised because it's the 80s? I was typing up right and left justified essays for school using Wordstar on my CP/M machine in the early 80s and printing them out on a daisy-wheel printer. I could choose a monos

Yes, we can find a mate and create a baby. We can't know whether it will be ready to fill a particular functional role after 20 years of training. This works OK for an entire society filling its workforce or army, but seems rather in

The problem is we don't have the users from 20-30 years ago either. Now, even though I and my email client still use threading, much of my incoming corpus does not. Instead, I see a mixture of users who break every thread (no In-Reply

Sorry, it's been many years and I misremembered the term "meta-circular evaluator", i.e. everybody's toy implementation of an interpreter with a REPL and very simplistic (if any) changes to the source language being inte

I think you are describing a source to source translator, and an awfully fancy one at that. A translator generally would be trying to map or maintain the structural idioms in the source code, allowing for human understanding or maintenance

I think parser generators are generally easier to use with dynamic languages. Most of the code-generation tooling can be hidden by interpreters or JIT compilers, and dynamic typing and generics can make the action code much more concise. I

This is how battery-backed RAID cards used to work. An on-card rechargeable battery could keep the write buffers alive for about 24-48 hrs to flush to disk after you restored power in your datacenter. Now, they use super-capacitors and a f

Your concern about "the right way to approach it" is getting closer to the real conflict which is not in the "way" but in what "it" is. In your mind, what is the desired goal or outcome for AI R&D? If your

I don't hear a voice in my head nor do I really have the sort of internal monologue or dialogue that many people describe here. My thoughts are much more spatial, for lack of a better word. A sense of expanse and topology, neither vi

Lots of social animals demonstrate some form of credit/debt accounting in their relationships. I think this is an almost inseparable part of our mind-body systems (a sort of limbic balance sheet) and does not depend on abstract concept

I imagine it was a typo, but... I personally have found PyOpenCL and the vispy.gloo OpenGL APIs to be very convenient together (along with Numpy and Scipy of course). If it fits your goals, a useful mental model is that you are programming
