It shouldn't even be possible to segfault an interpreted language like Ruby, let alone the "current stable" version. Sounds like it's Ruby-core's problem, not Rails-core's. That said, I agree with you, it's strange. But I do think it's good

If your shoes are so disgustingly dirty, I wouldn't bring them into the home/office at all. Take them off at the door like asians do. Then, of course, people would put their feet up in socks, and Zed would have to come up with another token

I would agree 100% with you except for some personal experiences I've had. I'm a full time Ruby developer who incessantly tries to pull all his friends, kicking and screaming, into programming - any programming - and naturally I push Ruby

The social networking client Gwibber is now built right into the desktop. Argh! There's nothing I hate more than seemingly cool open source software being saddled from birth with ridiculous names! Gwibber!? What was the author thinking!

But that's not the near future. Well, I think you're underestimating the pace of technological progress. Yes, I might not personally live to see the day, but I don't think it will be that far away. There are a lot of rapidly aging rich pe

Who's spending 200 years plugged into Facebook? I don't use it now and I doubt I'd suddenly start. I've got things to do! your brain still can only hold so much and you still be you Well by that logic I've died several times already. I'm

But bodies, like all machines, really do wear, and eventually they wear out. Wow - imagine if we could repair machines! We could have vintage cars that were actually drivable instead of mounds of rust. We could have planes from WWII that

Good points. There's another relevant one - in Japan, parents are liable if their child defaults on a debt. How much risk would you be will to take if you knew your parents might lose their house if you failed?

Speaking of 0 evidence ... The human body is a machine. It is a very complex and intricate machine, but a machine it is nonetheless. Yes, we do not yet have the understanding. Yes, we do not yet have the necessary tools. But we will have th

While I think you are completely and utterly wrong, and that it is inevitable that aging will be cured or anyway worked around, that's not what I was trying to say. The GP claimed that curing aging would "break" the economy with indefinite

If aging is really cured then I will be happy to work until I either have the assets to retire unassisted or work forever. After all, I'll be in perfect health. And just think how productive I will be after a century or two!

Wouldn't be too sure about milk. Someone working for WW once told me that Home Brand et al buy milk which is in effect several days, maybe even a week, older than that which you get from Dairy Farmers &co.

My point is that the sudden doubling of the price of oil and every other import would have a profound effect on the USA. It might be desirable anyway, despite the cost, but it is not something that can be done on a whim without any conseque
