The term you are looking for is pointer stability. It can be a useful property, but you can also get it storing pointers in a vector. That would often be faster in practice than a linked list.

A hash table has E[O(1)] inserts and lookups. Most people ignore the expected part and just say those operations are O(1). Asymptotic complexity is of course only loosely correlated with speed. In real systems with real workload sizes, cons

Just did the math and supporting a ~70F (50F-> 120F) rise at 1GPM (faucets are limited to about this) requires 9kW, or about 40A at 240W. Supporting a bunch of 40A circuits in a typical home would require a massively upgraded circuit pan

Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Our power usage is dominated by our household's ~100-150w baseline power consumption. Idle draw for a high end machine is probably around that amount.

This is a bailout more so for landlords than renters. IMO this should be done via a non-refundable property tax rebate. Don't pay property taxes? Then you already get your subsidy on an ongoing basis.

The assertion that inflation hurts the poor is often stated, but I haven't seen data supporting it. Real wage growth and inflation are linked, of course, but almost certainly not anti-correlated (high inflation => low or negative re
