EVs produce more tire dust, which makes up a large percentage of PM2.5 pollution. On net EVs will degrade public space less than gas vehicles, but car-free spaces are still much nicer to live in. https://www.greencarreports.com&#

65W GaN chargers are getting pretty small, comparable with the crappy 5V USB power supply Apple used to pack in with their phones.

> nepotism is the modus operandi It's pretty clear that a huge chunk of the US doesn't consider nepotism corruption, given the complete lack of repercussions to Trump for hiring his family into the White House.

You can't even change the subpixel rendering to BGR on a Mac! The suggested solution is, literally, to flip your monitor upside down.

Some of this is a matter of taste, clearly. I strongly prefer having my system packages being rock solid; I can always fetch updated software for the very few cases where I want that. However, my aversion to homebrew goes beyond taste: my e

Some banks now offer proper APIs, allowing Mint to redirect you to their OAuth flow-equivalent. So it's slowly improving.

The difference IMO is that Plaid is often used for e.g. tenant applications, where the person requiring the use of Plaid and the person forced to disclose credentials are not the same. That's bad. If I choose to give my credentials to

Thanks, this was an interesting perspective. Alfalfa does seem to come up as a waste of water occasionally, but almonds seem get most of the hate. How would limits on aquifer withdrawal be enforced? In general reforming water rights seems p

Ah yes that does sound painful. I'd generally recommend that data be denormalized in the warehouse so the joins don't need to be done at query time. That can make the queries more complex, however.

We need to stop subsidizing people who choose to live in the wildlands urban interface. It's a hazard to the rest of us.

In SF pre-pandemic, it was already true that a minority of people drove themselves to work. Drivers are just much more visible. A bus can transport as many people as an entire block's worth of vehicles.

Single family homes in cities will still exist. They're a luxury now -- SFH in desirable parts of SF start around $1300/sq ft -- and will likely remain so.

Prop 13 actually passed because property owners were pissed their nominal taxes were going up due to inflation in the 70s. Renters voted for it because they were told that their rents wouldn't go up if property taxes were capped, but o
