That looks indeed very similar. We just need the decoder then! :) So I'm guessing there's definitely some need for a tool like this, right? I mean, being able to "QR-codify" any text and later getting it back could simpl

I've been working, on and off, on a little side project to solve this exact issue. It's just a python script that converts a piece of text of arbitrary length, into a series of QR codes. I then plan to work on the "decoder&qu

Could you expand on his work, related to CS and/or his influence in your work? I've never heard of him so I'm curious, being a Field medalist and all.

Wow! Great explanation. Thanks! I just can't start to fathom the complexity of these instruments. Also... how cool that you get to work on such interesting field and with such cool "lab" devices!

1.5 years for an upgrade? Can you expand on why it takes so much time to do an upgrade? I'm guessing it's due to the complexity of the system, kinda like with the LHC? or is it something different? I mean, having equipment that ex

I believe the name says "Near" instead of "Neil", so probably not the real guy. I don't see how the real NDT would benefit from such bad-PR comments.

What is IDPs in this context? I found "Intrusion Detection and Prevention System" but I don't think that's it.

I didn't mean to imply that shows got delisted at the sole discretion of Netflix. I understand that it's a complex decision with multiple stakeholders, and would even like to think that Netflix benefits the most from NOT delisting

It says: "The Chiapas branch of Conagua confirmed to Truthout that the company has permits for two wells to extract a total of 499,918 cubic meters of water per year, or 499.9 million liters. In 2016, the company extracted 78.8 percent

Yeah, maybe. But I think it's still a possibility. Never underestimate companies that want to "innovate". I mean, standardizing a DRM API on browsers is probably going to bring us a lot of new "tools" which people w

But how long will it take for websites to be delivered with DRM so they can't be archived, scraped, saved to disk, screenshot, etc? I agree that it's "only" a step in that direction, but this can snowball and get ugly pre

Maybe the harm will be realized in the long run, when you want to watch something that is no longer available? For example, the Netflix library changes every now and then (at least that I've been able to detect), and there's more

That's strange. My (somewhat) old Core i7 laptop goes not higher than 4%. I'm guessing different browsers make a difference? I'm using Chrome 60.0.3112.113 on Win7.

I would love to have a setup like yours, I just can't justify the cost for the type of data I have. I mean, yeah sure, my pictures and personal stuff are very valuable, but I already have a few copies in my parent's home, etc, and

I'll look up into it. But I already have a cloud solution (tarsnap) that works great for me. The thing is I only backup a subset of my stuff to the cloud due to cost issues, so less than critical files go to my local backup.

Do you know the details for the local drive backup option? I saw on their features list that it supports backup to a local SFTP and NAS server. Any idea what they mean by NAS? i.e. they support a branded NAS like Synology or do they support

Care to elaborate on the Backblaze solution? I just gave it a cursory look at their product page, but it seems it's a cloud backup only and I'm looking for a local one. Unless I'm wrong and it does support local as well?
