This is a good point. I feel like I have a somewhat unsatisfying answer to this, which is that I am approaching this from a first-principles reasoning of ethical value, which logically leads to the arguing for secession. Specifically, since

I am so impressed by these activists but at the same time feel so demoralized. The CCP has consistently acted with great hostility and any attempt to change the system through existing political mechanisms, protests, and civil disobedience.

Ah you are about to face one of my favorite problems. A high-performing building is air-tight, and well-insulated, but old masonry/brick buildings rely on leaky envelopes with no insulation to maintain a dry enclosure. Basically, the l

One more dynamic to factor in: the tree canopy will also block long-wave radiation emitted from the ground, which will increase urban temperatures.

This one is for statistics. I have found the explanation of statistical concepts through the lens of linear algebra immensely intuitive. A simple, short and clear illustration of this is in 'The Geometry of Multivariate Statistics'

I guess I disagree with this assessment. There are many famous architects who are famous precisely for the criteria you listed as 'blue collar' here: Peter Zumthor, Herzog & de Meuron, Rafael Moneo, Alvaro Siza. They tend to w

There's many reasons why he isn't considered a good architect: - Notoriously bad detailing (see the lawsuit associated with the Ray and Maria Stata Center at MIT). Precise detailing is a reflection of an architect's craftmans

I went to architecture school, Gehry is extremely unpopular amongst most contemporary architects. He's considered more of an artist then an architect.

This is great. I move around a lot, and one of the big headaches I always have is figuring out a decent route to run. The only thing I would request is having an option to have completely circular routes, rather then having routes that requ

Yes, and another big saver would be certain types of heat recovery system[1] that will allow you to recover the heat added to the supply air from the exhaust air without mixing (and thereby polluting) the air streams. [1] https://

Another solution I have thought about is simple increasing the amount of fresh air brought into an indoor space. Laboratories, wood-working shops and other spaces that can produce unhealthy air have extremely high Air Change per Hour (ACH)[

I have the exact same desire. I want to delete my web browsers and just keep google maps. My solution to this is to download a parental control app (I use AppLock), and block the web browser and google play.

Well said. I especially appreciate the distinction you're making between balancing liberty with liberty-destroying ideology. This is the kind of difficult nuance that I rarely see in these discussions. One one side there's the fre

I think you're being needlessly pedantic. Just because it's easy to derive doesn't mean it's immediately obvious. I only realized it when I watched a 3Brown1Blue video where he pointed it out as interesting property of t

Calculations are so much easier when it's a unit circle/sphere. Here's my favorite trick: the radians of an angle in a unit circle is equal to the length of the arc of that unit circle.

Solar panels themselves are only 10% - 15% efficient at converting solar to electricity. So I think your estimate here is off by a factor of 10.

1 KW sounds high to me. Granted I work in higher latitudes (42). Rule of thumb is 1KW for peak solar radiation, which translates 100W from a solar panel (which are 15% - 20% efficiency).
