A quick investigation of his company's published accounts for 2008 say he's actually making even better money now than he was back then. Interesting.

It's a shame their API seems to be taking an eternity. I gave up waiting about two months ago.

"For standard Google Docs users this will be 25 cents per gigabyte, per year, while Google Apps enterprise users have to pay $3.50 per gigabyte, per year" Looks more like $3.50/gigabyte for business users. That's a pretty massive difference

Jetty's initial heap size can be tuned. Setting the initial heap to something small (say 16mb or 32mb), while having a decent max heap, would change those graphs a fair bit.

Bah, I completely didn't see (2) first time around. Google groups really needs a better interface. Even doing "Newer" didn't reveal that post until I searched for it manually. Has that tactic of getting an AdWords account worked for you? Wi

D'oh, I hadn't considered that. I'm also wondering what moved them towards the SLC-based Intel drives as opposed to the MLC-based ones (that offer a much lower price-capacity), since in terms of read performance IOPS they're almost identica

Hmmm yes, you're right. Even with knowledge of the accesses required in 1s time, you're still bounded by the speed of the movements of the heads. That said. I wonder if there's any trickery you can do with pre-generating the interleaved dat

I'm a little confused as to the actual problem being solved here. For SSDs there is essentially no seek penalty, so random read and sequential read performance are essentially the same. Spinning hard drives, because of the seek penalty, hav

Interesting. Comparing Dropbox and Jungledisk's pricing: Dropbox is $9.99/month for 50GB of storage. Jungledisk is $(3 + 6.75)/month for 50GB of storage. Jungledisk seems a little cheaper at the 100GB level, assuming you're using the Racksp

A low-end Linode box is only $20/month and has plenty of capacity for Tomcat and company. Alternatively, you Rackspace have a 256mb VM for $11/month, though you have to add bandwidth ontop of that.
