I've programmed in Clojure professionally. People like GP often repeat that talking point: "code is data so that's amazing because of macros". In practice, by and large, with very few exceptions, macros are frowned upon

So much electron bashing, per usual. Extremely uninteresting conversation. All the points about this have been made by 2020, there's nothing new to add.

Consumer protection laws are mostly fine in Brazil and Uruguay, and I'd bet also on more countries on the other side of the Atlantic.

Now it is, but when they offered this feature initially it wasn't, and when they added the feature, you had to go in the options to turn it on. Evil.

It's a full management app for recruiting companies. There are still 3 companies that use it (since 2008), so their employees don't have a choice really. The app does a lot, so to stop using it the companies would need to hire and

My company, me as a solo dev, back in 2003-04 built a "single page app" using XUL and iframes. Still has some 200 monthly users, the poor bastards. They have to download Firefox 3.6 iirc, and it only works in an 800x600 window. XU

I see this argument a lot. It works if you don't mind being surrounded by people in much, much worse condition than yours, for no reason other than policy cruelty.

The difference might be the "human doing it as a party trick" vs "multi billion dollar corporation using it for profit". Having said that I think the cat is very much out of the bag on this one and, personally, I think t

All of those sentences are directly translatable 1:1 to portuguese, with the same tenses, in normal day-to-day speech too. Maybe instead of "terei" a brazilian would say "vou ter", but the effect is exactly the same. I c

I've worked in 3 of the biggest rails codebases in the world (Shopify being the last) and I can say from experience that rails legacy monoliths are infinitely worse to work with than some awful, but harmless, sea of struts XML legacy.

Perfectly put. People who try to argue that more time should be spent on making software perform better probably aren't thinking about who's going to pay for that. For the home/office computer, the money spent on more RAM and
