Your shift of signifier here from WP Engine to Silver Lake is interesting. Clever tactic, private equity money is BAD! Unless it’s… I dunno? Black Rock p/e money?

Right, sorry, I see what you mean. You mean “if you believe that the issue is truly as he describes it publicly and not in fact something else” rather than the literal interpretation of “if you believe that this is his issue”. My answer was

I think their current PR seems to be Matt Mullenweg himself. And the more I hear him speak - having never really concerned myself with anything he said - the more loopy and disconnected from reality he seems. Post-economic! Sometimes it’s g

Absolutely. I moved a big revenue generating content site away from Wordpress about 18 months ago. With this absurd debacle going on, I’m so glad I made that decision.

Beyond code and money, both of which I believe they contribute - though apparently not enough to satisfy Matt Mullenweg - you could argue that they offer a very straight forward distribution/adoption channel in terms of straightforward

Mullenweg literally said that this was his issue. That’s what kicked off the whole debacle.

Straight away I can see use cases for this in construction inspection, surveying, facility management and so on. e.g. “fly around this construction site to inspect these things from these angles and return to base” or “fly around the exteri

I’m accidentally cross posting this because I left this thread to find the link then searched on HN and posted it to the wrong one. Worth reading Kevin Murphy’s piece here: https://domainincite.com/30395-future-of-io-domains

Worth reading Kevin Murphy’s piece here: https://domainincite.com/30395-future-of-io-domains-uncertai... He’s a long time commentator on the domain industry and very inciteful. But also quite insightful.

.pizza is a gTLD (generic top level domain) rather than a ccTLD (country code top level domain). ICANN rules say that gTLDs have to have three characters or more. So you can have .xyz but not .xo

To answer your question “why will this one work when the other attempts didn’t?” - from my perspective, this one got my attention enough that I’m going to try it. I’ve seen lots of ‘annotate the web’ things and none has piqued my interest.

Not a fan of WPE, which destroyed Flywheel, one of the most brilliant companies and teams I’ve ever dealt with. Also not much of a fan of Wordpress.org after using it for 15+ years (and recently ditching it), but that’s mainly because of ha

I really loved Flywheel. Everyone I interacted with from sales to support was extraordinary. It must have been very sad for the folk working there to have the company gutted by WPE.

I had been a customer - for a decade or more - of a company that WP Engine acquired. A couple of years after the acquisition I began to get persistent - VERY persistent - calls and emails from their ‘product specialists’ who were determined

But I think if you photoshopped someone into an advertising image in a way that made them appear to endorse your product you would probably very quickly be hit (and lose?) a lawsuit right? So I’m increasingly of the opinion that it’s not th

Possibly idiotic question: I'm fairly new to actually writing code myself in any thing more than a tinkering way. What do you use for programming where you can choose the typeface?

Would give it a shot for stuff I’m working on but the free plan is too limited with only 1000 records and the paid plan is deceptively priced. It’s not $5 per user, it’s $25 if you only need one user.
