How many jobs? If you were to divide the amount of the tax break by the number of jobs, how much would the government have ended up paying per job?

There's still Federal taxes which get paid, and distributed out to the states. Whereas there is no "EU" tax that gets distributed to the member states.

What rewards are they reaping? They're not necessarily getting more jobs, they're not getting more tax revenue, and as soon as the "efficient" government's tax break is over, the company will jump to the next countr

Has anyone ever done a study on how well these deals work out? I know in the US, there have been studies on whether or not the tax breaks for the film industry are worth it, and they almost never are. As soon as the tax break ends, they mov

Depends on where you live. In the Bay Area, the difference between $100k and even just $150k is quite a bit in terms of housing.

"If you try to login with an email and a password, I will return a 404 with no further explanation if the auth request fails." There's already HTTP Status Codes for failed auth. Use those.

Then come out and say it. I'd be all for the phrase "culture mis-match" being banned. If you can't properly articulate why you don't want to hire someone, then the problem is with you, not the applicant.

We're speaking relatively. In the context of the conversation, it makes absolutely no difference what someone working in a McDonalds in rural Wisconsin makes. We're talking about the cost of engineers. And compared to people who d

I would say that it is reasonable to assume the "not a good culture fit" IS discrimination until proven otherwise. And once again, with the supposed shortage of engineers, why isn't the company adapting?

It would be nice to have a job with which you can pay rent and buy food, and pay for that web hosting.

"I'm a programmer because I can code, and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters." That is so patently untrue it's not even funny. If that were the case, then we wouldn't even be having conversat

Right, but if your argument is that they just didn't understand REST, and yet they employ some of the smartest people around, so if they can't understand REST, what chance do the rest of us have?

For those points to be well reasoned, one would have to assume that no one at Facebook has tried those things, though. If they really are integral to what REST is, then it doesn't really make sense that no one there knew what it was.

Once again, you've clearly never experienced a recruiter trying to get you for a crappy job. Consider yourself lucky. And since you haven't, you really need to stop telling other people what they can and cannot complain about. Ser

Absolutely none of that makes up for the abysmal pay, though. You can easily get a software development job making much, much more than that, with most, if not all of the same benefits.

You're getting fucked. Hard. But that's what the games industry is all about. Fucking developers over, and then replacing them with fresh faced new grads who think it'd be just spiffy to work in games.

That's what happens when you don't have a government, though. It's been shown time and again. Power abhors a vacuum.
