The only way to not be an asshole riding one on the sidewalk is to essentially not go faster than walking, at which point why bother?

In other words, it's a bit of a danger, and also really annoying.

Yeah, but scooter companies won't have a business without people riding them on the sidewalk, because riding them on the street is terrifying, and it's not possible that the companies don't know it.

Updated my comment: what I'm saying is that there isn't actually any cluttering, not that cluttering is OK.

That's what I'm saying, the "reported cash profit" includes stock-based compensation as an expense exactly like regular salaries. You don't even have to know what dilution means.

The sidewalk cluttering is such a non-issue. The real problem is people riding them on the sidewalks, which is annoying and best and dangerous at worst. Riding them in the street, on the other hand, is scary, I'm pretty sure too sc

I just tried one yesterday, it managed to simultaneously feel uncomfortably dangerous and be pointlessly slow. To give context on my threshold for things "feeling dangerous", I used to be a bike messenger in NYC.

To "ignorant" shareholders, there's no difference between stock and cash compensation.

Stock based compensation is reported as an expense in income statements, so, you're wrong.

Right, the difference is that the former isn’t real. When you have millions to billions of LoC developed by thousands to hundreds of thousands of developers anything not forced isn’t going to be consistent.

Nope, the point is consistency in large organizations. In other languages, teams develop naming conventions like these. Having them in the language reduces the overhead of reading a new codebase.

1 and 2 are trivially fixable. 3 and 4 are pretty fundamental though, especially 3 - if you don't want to force everybody to keep up with head, you probably don't want to use a monorepo.
