I've used satellite imagery to plan trips to see fall colors, you can see big stands of aspen changing colors but usually there are enough people out taking photos that you dont need it and the high enough resolution photos lack suffic

Then you are sleeping on rocks/dirt with just a thin tent fabric. At the very least most people use some closed cell foam.

I use my phone for navigation and camera. I also use it to read before bed. The powerbank recharges the phone on multiday trips. The powerbank can also charge satellite communication devices and headlamps when needed. This is pretty common

My ultralight gear has been sufficiently durable for my backpacking and hiking, even off trail. I'm not hunting or repairing trails but stuff lasts a while. The only exception I've found is inflatable pads which get punctured but

This depends on the source of the raw materials, the green is typically from iron and you can have higher purity soda lime glass that is much more clear. I didn't realize there was a visible blue tint in consumer borosilicate glass, I

I'm surprised that there is enough difference between borosilicate glass and soda lime glass refractive index. They are also both slightly mis-matched to mineral oil but I guess good enough for a visual check. Appears its not consisten

The best option in busier places is a privy/outhouse that gets emptied, sometimes by pack mule or helicopter. Sometimes these have amazing views, like the one near here: 52°16'13.7"N 125°57'22.4"W

Aren't there better uses for the treated water than this? Can't you use it instead of desalinating salt water? Or just run this treated water through the same RO and you won't produce any brine and the result will be just as

Yah, lots of neat line scan camera applications in spectroscopy. Basically any grating application. 950nm would be on the edge of where you'd implement a Si CCD for OCT as the sensitivity drops as the Si is no longer absorbing. InGaAs

Small nitpick and they got it right in the next sentence but "3D X-ray topographical scanner" should be tomographic not topographic. X-ray topography is something else unrelated.
