I got one on eBay. It says for military use only. So far I haven't been pulled over with it in my trunk.

Last time I used it they still hadn't implemented any of the background blurring or changing. The rest seems to work ok.

I've routinely been asked to close them once we've landed when its hot out (mostly in hot areas of the western US).

I'm not sure how much heating oil use there is in California, seemed like most people without natural gas use either wood or propane.

You'd be surprised how common it is, the largest source of air pollution in the winter in the SF bay area is from people burning wood.

Are you a software developer? I'm in an engineering role that requires lab work and work mostly onsite from the office/lab/factory.

Someone who can't drive could simply join another employee who can, basically a ride along, maybe not as useful but still doable. If you can't do that there are other customer service jobs you could do like a call center or someth

You don't have to sell if someone offers asking and you are nearly guaranteed to get significantly more. The asking price is effectively meaningless at this point.

Presumably the fundamentals are patented and not a trade secret. I could see parts of the manufacturing process being a trade secret.

Interesting, doesn't say much about the patented corrosion prevention that would enable the storage of the molten sodium hydroxide.

If you have some electronics experience you can buy the Plantower sensors that PurpleAir uses and connect it to a microcontroller, there are guides mentioned in the comments here.

Seems like "if your shit breaks, you fix it" = on call 24/7... isn't it better to have a specific shift where you know you are responsible and then you aren't the rest of the time.

You can pay a float/bush plane pilot to drop you off in the middle of nowhere in Alaska or BC for less than $1000 (depending on where) and have a great trip.

I did that on a base model APC UPS that would beep when the power was interrupted, even briefly. I didn't care to know, I just wanted it to work quietly so I de-soldered the beeper, problem solved.

If you are particularly concerned (could be justified) you could get a small aircraft with a diesel engine, don't seem super common but might be increasing.

It took me a while to realize this but all the successful tenured faculty members telling me to become a professor was an extreme survivorship bias. I don't tell anyone to be a professor.

I've wondered about this since so much alfalfa and corn are specifically grown on arable land to feed cattle. What fraction of beef calories is derived from non-arable grazing lands? There is also the extensive use of water to irrigate

I think the proliferation of usb-c has finally solved the universal port issue, you can just buy a 3rd party dongle with HDMI/displayport, usb-c (with pass through charging), sd-card, usb, etc. and it works great. Meets my needs pretty

If the price of gas increases are largely due to taxes which is sometimes the case it could be easy to simply offer rebates to public transit companies, just like you can buy diesel for farm equipment or heating without paying the road taxe
