I think they are pushing the iMac to replace most of the high end use cases the Mac Pro had with the 27inch display, 16GB max memory, and Quad Core CPU options. Some people here are saying the reason to buy a Mac Pro is that it is expandabl

Yes I see your point better now. I'd probably would have ldd'ed it till I found out how it worked from the article, now I won't anymore. However given that I would know exactly who the user was - any damage that was intentional by them wou

I've been a sysadmin for several years now. I don't know what would possess me to run that program as me, I would run it as them. That's if I ran it at all since I would check the fault they reported first anyway.

Surely it is until you prove it succeeds it's quite likely it will fail - if you have not launched or have launced but have no users or are not profitable it's seems likely you will fail without a lot more work. I suspect from your descript

Virtually everyone I meet nowadays tells me they are using some high level framework like Rails, CakePHP, Django with jQuery/Prototype etc. or building on top of Wordpress. Even .net is pretty high level. So, I'm not sure people are doing w

It seems like there is a basic problem here. Users have spent years using WYSIWYG editors like MS Word, Email apps and so on. Having a basic text box breaks that. Not only that, it's different markup on every site you go to. User don't want

Create an API, implement it in WordPress, phpBB, moveable type and get everyone else to implement it - then writing an aggregator would be a lot easier.

FYI, as it happens, it's not a copy of anything, friendfeed didn't exist when we started. It's just taking us longer because we don't have ~10 ex-googlers working on it. Your right it's what FriendFeed should have done/become, though for so

We have been doing this for a while at http://friendbinder.com There are also a number of others like PeopleBrowsr, SocialThing (bought by AOL now AOL lifestream), Threadsy, EventBox and Ping.fm (for posting) that are trying it.

This is essentially what we have been writing at friendbinder [ http://friendbinder.com ] for a couple of years now. There are also a number of other systems attempting the same thing. One of the key issues is lack of standards in the APIs

Basically, if your smart, you risk under achieving because compared to your perceived peers, your doing well and don't try any harder. However, compared to other people who are similarly smart your under achieving.

If Microsoft had done 10.6, it would be a service pack and would be free. I'm surprised so many people paid $29 for it. Don't forget 10.6 drops PowerPC support meaning for many users a the price of a 10.6 upgrade is not $29 but $599+ (the p

Well HDDs never really increased in access time in the last 20 years [as they state] because the problem is basically rotational latency, so get a better speeds than a 15k RPM disk you need a 30K RPM, 60K RPM, 120K RPM disks etc which would

To put it another way, Spinning disks can do ~1MB/sec random writes, SSDs can do about ~40Mb/sec and with only 3 (pairs if RAID) of disks you can saturate a 1GBit network connection. http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3631&

This for the most part assumes traditional disks and the problems with those. The problem with the RAMcloud is that it's expensive. The problem is that memory is expensive, and when you can only put ~64GB in a 1U server it's a lot of rack s
