I don't think that the deepest technical roles in computing, including programming are social enough for most women. Programming requires you to work without talking to anyone and even when you've finished many non-tech people won't underst

A really interesting point at about 37 minutes in, where they say that drives could end up executing code just like graphics cards do now. That could really speed things up. You wouldn't have all the latency of doing multiple reads on the d

Well really the problem with Facebook is that's too complex. Though I'd agree there are non-sys admin problems that people have, but the worst problems are all sys. admin type ones, viruses, out of space, slowness. The user-space stuff is n

To me, many of the issues are the computer telling the user about stuff they shouldn't have to worry about. For example, wouldn't cloud computing solve most of these problems by not giving the responsibility for the problem to the user? Ch

Looks a lot like an iPad, except less battery life, much less storage and heavier. It does have a bigger, higher resolution screen and a camera though. I think they got the balance on this product wrong and Apple got it right.

Did George Bush go "somewhere"? Most people by going "somewhere", want to significantly grow from where their parents put them, which includes doing a lot better than their parents. George Bush's Dad was already president before him. Though

StackOverflow runs on a 3.33 Ghz quad core x 2, 48 GB RAM, 6 drive RAID 10 http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/12/stack-overflow-rack-gl... So if Digg is as 10x times the size they would need a (assuming perfect scaling) 3.33 Ghz quad core

Cassandra is about scaling writes not reads. MySQL is slow on writes because you'll get a random write for every index you maintain (+the table it's self). MySQL's replication will help scale reads but does nothing for writes. Cassandra i

You can only do it on the index, the query from the index will return in the sort order. You have to be very careful in your index and query design to make this work. For example if your index is (username, date_posted) then you can do some

I don't think you can have the fulltext index in the same index as the id since fulltext indexes don't mix with anything.

There won't be an index with both the full text search and the id in, so MySQL will have to create a temporary table with the results and sort that and do the limit. If you have a TEXT or a BLOB column or it's too big, MySQL will do that on
