Thanks for the reply! I feel bad even pointing this stuff out, because I know that startups have to do what they have to do to make the bread as it were. I am very glad there is a data export tool, I'm sure that will alleviate some pe

Great blog article! Good discussion, but there was one element I would like to see discussed more about these 'store your data as a service' is the hidden vendor lock-in! I can understand that when you are pushing for a solution,

Interesting, I said 'solve the problem' but nothing really about capturing or fighting. Define the problem and solution broadly, and better ideas start coming out of the woodwork.

To follow up, I think the project could be defined as 'the civilizing of Afghanistan". Reduce the chance of it nurturing terrorism, helping calm relations between neighbors, reducing the rates of violence. Of course, in the UN fr

When the US invaded Afghanistan, I (and some of my friends) smartassedly noted that where the British and Russians failed, so would the US. Ultimately the US has failed to tame Afghanistan - as expected - but really the world isn't bet

That's the problem with mtgox - there was a divorce of BTC and mtgoxBTC account values, and that divergence, due to poor accounting/theft/whatever ultimately lead to a situation where mtgox is now acting like a fractional res

The parallels are more apt than it first seems... both people have their lives threatened by powerful vested interests. Both have threatened the legitimacy of the vested interests. Yes, proximately Snowden broke the law (and so did Galileo

So credentials aside, surely the story of Snowden has a public interest element, and is an interesting tale regardless of 'authoritative.' Besides which, in a democracy, anyone can be credentialed enough to serve in government. I&

The article is ok, and unsurprisingly did well on hn, but it's still the easy first level technical analysis. I learned nothing here. I'd love to see a deeper analysis, but it probably can't come from a computer scientist.

It's an odd claim that is way wrong. Was it a typo? A braino? Or just wrong? I guess that this article got voted up so much is a strong indication as to how young this site really is. Nothing she said was very insightful, and any of

I find it interesting how the SF's rent control seems to not be well understood by many. For example, people quote the ellis act as a frequent way in which people are evicted, and hold it up as proof that long time renters have no secu
