The only thing I always find shocking in the UK is how racist speech is actually illegal, like serve jail time illegal. They will find surveillance of someone making a racist gesture at a football match or something on Twitter, hunt them d

Kind of a joke, but certainly during the cold war that's probably what we would have suspected. We haven't had any assassinations in a long time, but I think people would assume a national enemy if we did.

I think it's more of a stereotype then racism. In the DC sniper saga, everyone assumed it was a white male. Basically stereotypes: Spree shooter/sniper = white male, Bomber = arab male, Drive-by = african american male, Poisoning = kgb? N

"The climate system is not quite so simple as people thought," said Bjorn Lomborg This is the understatement of the year. The Earth is an extremely complicated system.

It's the old "pass a law and make a big deal about it when everyone cares, then repeal it quietly when they've moved on to something else" trick.

The challenging thing to me with FlightCar is it seems like one of those things where you need critical mass for it to work. You have to have a close matching of people leaving and wanting to rent to people returning and wanting to rent.

>The only time a house makes sense is when raising kids. It really depends where you live. Here in Pittsburgh you can buy a decent house for $150k. Meanwhile, rent in that same area is $1000 for something similar. In this case, even

I wonder if this sentiment is similar to the "no one uses Hotmail" type comments I hear from tech people. It seems like lots of people still use it based on the number I check-ins I see. It may not be quite as trendy these days but it's d

People talking about usage being down are missing the bigger opportunity. Pretty much every app that needs location data uses FourSquare these days. I think that's the bigger vision here. Not exactly sure how it's monetized, but I see th

Ryan is already "known" and had a business that was profitable. I'm sure Biz Stone could raise money in Maine. Try being unknown in Orlando and raising money for a pre-revenue startup. YRMV Also $7 million was raised with an office in Por

I think there is a difference between people bitching in private, and it being something publicly searchable by people who just met you. One bad date and suddenly you have a reputation that follows you forever? (Assuming people used this

The key is to find the Google people on the Groups team on Twitter. This is how I finally got an Analytics issue resolved that had been going on for months. Google employees generally want to help, there is just no way into the wall.

A good example being the old Google Answers. It was amazing, and it worked by people paying for every answer, but it was shutdown.

I guess there is no way to tell, since I'm not sure how dramatically that would have affected me. But since my life turned out pretty great despite of the divorce, I think Dad going to Mars would only make it that much sweeter.

I jumped to a similar assumption, but it's not clear this app is their startup. They seem to have a company "Little Details", so this is likely just a pet project they enjoy working on together. If we see them raising millions of dollars

I don't know, as a child of divorce, I think having a dad who pioneered flight to Mars would be better then my parents staying in an unhappy relationship.

Agree, but the author's point was you shouldn't work on a side project unless it's a "real business".

Thanks Patrick! I hate to be "that guy", but the poor sound quality on your side is really distracting on this one (I see you addressed that, just curious if you considered rerecording your side)

I find the converse hard to believe, why would someone who is happy at work create a side project (unless they are just a tinkerer or are scratching a personal itch)?

I think a better example would be a scene where someone is reading a book. I kind of doubt they would give credit to Earnest Hemingway in the credits, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm also convinced they use Google Analytics to find new URLs. I've seen URLs that I only had in AJAX calls indexed before (and I fired events to GA on these URLs).

Even so, that's a huge difference compared to the previous $50-60 people were paying for games. Sure they can cut out the publisher, printing, etc... now, but I expect they were still making at least $10 per game in the past.

Why isn't this insurance fraud? If I got into a car accident and the mechanic told me it would be $7k with insurance or $4k in cash, isn't that fraud? (Note: I know mechanics do this, just curious why it's legal)
