Eastern Europe here, local full time offers are down, US remote freelance offers are up. Not sure what to make of it yet.

I don't know, I haven't had a fight with the compiler in a long while now. On the other hand a $42 dedicated box benchmarked my project's REST API at 270,000req/s. I don't even use a DB, just structs serialized in J

Sniped a deal at the server auction, it's closer to $43 at today's exchange rate.

Not sure about $4 but for $40 I get a dedicated box with Intel i7-8700, 128GB RAM, 1TB of NVME storage and 1Gbe of bandwidth at Hetzner. That is a lot of machine for the money.

My Windows 10 LTSB is going strong, no ads either. Plenty of time left on the security patches too.

To this day I admire Linux for having the grit and perseverance of maintaining ext2, ext3 and ext4 as separate code bases for so long. Equivalent FreeBSD UFS, UFS with soft updates and UFS with journaling is one code base with each generati

Salesforce is an Oracle/Java webapp from 1999 + a whole bunch of poorly integrated acquisitions. It's a miracle it works at all.

How about their future prospects? From the 4 implementations I've seen all are desperately trying to leave the platform. One succeeded so far. Is the enterprise Salesforce craze over?

I would imagine load-store to be simpler to implement in hardware.

A question to the Rust experts, would lifetime annotations 'a in Rust have similar benefit as "in" or "in out" or "out" in Ada and other languages? With the additional benefit in Rust where the compiler ca

Since we have Hetzner employees reading this, please bring back FreeBSD image support. Operating system diversity is good for Internet's resilience.

This is a lie. The bad code was never "deployed in production", it was pulled before a release. FreeBSD users were never exposed to it. HEAD code branch is where reviews happen in BSDs, this code failed that review and was removed

From what I can recall, the performance issues were on the network side. I suspected accept() calls not scaling right, but instrumentation on Linux was quite poor at that time. They had nothing like dtrace back then so I can't be certa

I don't know man, I've given up and handed it over to someone more senior. Their port was half the performance and the project was killed. We kept on using FreeBSD for the product.
