Not a functional advice (my old laptops still all serve the same function), but: I'm using Apple since 2014 and realised I've gathered quite stack of old Macs (one Macbook Air, one MBP and one iMac). I've installed Linux in a

Just an FYI, in case you're not familiar with MarkDownload[0], it just downloads pages as Markdown (including linked images). I then use `pandoc` to create the ePub. [0] https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox

I also do something similar and it's great for me. I download a few (10 at most) articles a day with MarkDownload and create an ePub. I either read them on a reMarkable during daytime or a Kobo HD if in bed (I prefer the backlight to a

Don't mean to contradict your experience, but IMHO, yes. I think that being an upstream FreeBSD contributor will make it easy getting a job in some areas/companies. It speaks much louder than (formal) qualifications IMO.

Just a very tangential note about the last part of the post > I can't even get a job IMHO, making a single contribution to an important FOSS project (e.g. Linux kernel, a major programming language or a widely used library), althoug

I had a similar experience. I was around 12, had a ZX Spectum and wrote a couple of lines to draw a circle on the TV. I was amazed too at this new super power, where I could "tell my TV" where to draw a circle just by changing a c

I can share my (unsolicited) thoughts FWIW. I have never been a UI or front-end developer (altough I am professional programmer), but I do enjoy dabbling in making websites and keeping up with mainstream technologies for this area. I do fin

I get that with dark themes, but specifically ones with low contrast. I really couldn't use Github's dark theme when it was first released because everything looked blurry. Their new "high contrast" dark theme is a great

Anecdote: My eyesight is still pretty good for small print (I'm nearsighted, that apparently helps), but my partner (who recently passed the 40s milestone) started having trouble reading small font sizes in a matter of months.

IMO that's the proper way to learn Emacs. Doom seemed right to me at the time because I just wanted to uncomment `;; org` in `init.el` , not learn a lot of keybindings and get started. I think I'll start an "Emacs from scratc

I'm also a recent Emacs enthusiast. Many many years ago, I never felt productive with the navigation and keys. Then, recently, I _really_ wanted to try org and thought "I'll force myself to use it". I started with Evil m

I never worked with Flash/AS, but I remember some tools targeting SWF (OpenLaszlo, Haxe). Did they reverse-engineered the spec? Or was there some sort of Flash specification available in some form?
