I wondered the same as well. My idea was to change this and build one that worked.... A few thoughts: All LMSes need to be seen as a result from their surroundings. Education is a very bureaucratic sector with lots of money, just not in the

Hear hear. Thank you for your write up. Just wishing YC was more discriminatory in who they allow into the program. This shouldn't have passed the smell test.

To others here, please avoid this app, there are too many red flags about it. The testimonials on the site [1] are superficial. I only saw short term ones. Most people with ADHD have a track record of starting new things, being extremely en

Hey, Maybe nix is not for you. I'm not well versed with nix packages and only use the basics. Your answer on how to pin this package hasn't been answered good enough for you because it takes work to pin packages and it isn't

Nix is not easy nor simple. It's complicated but not complex. re: ruby version In ubuntu I can only install ruby2.7 and I don't which minor version. [1] I would need to use rvm anyway. It's the same with nix. What is possible

Reading your linked post, it seems you are wrestling with how Nix works. Nix is hard to learn. The concepts used are almost the same, but different. That's because it's solving slightly different problems than package managers cur

Last week I had a problem with our CI/CD pipeline because an old package that's a sub dependency wouldn't install anymore. [1] See that `rev` line in the sources.json? The whole build system is pinned by on git commit. If it

I've been following the situation around Peter for a few years now. Here's a documentary that touches on the panel with James Damoore that he mentions. He was also a member of the Grievance Studies Affair[1]. They got a chapter fr

I've been using borg now for a couple of years. It has been great. I previously used duplicity. It would do a full backup once every week or month, resulting in GBs of data being send over the line. Borg chunks the data and uses dedupl

For gzip, try pigz. It's the parallel version of it. I used to want high single core performance for my python code. I've since switched to using VSCode with devcontainers which run remotely on my 5950x. That makes it fast enough
