From my point reducing electronics while adding more mechanical parts will most likely lead to both cost and size increase which will make product less attractive. Fast FPGAs are getting cheaper daily.

Can you please ellaborate more on why Lua is way better than JSON ? We use JSON a lot for configs and data exchange, cannot see how can we gain from switching to Lua. One of my developers suggested Lua, so I'm curious.

AFAIK, those are regular dishes with tracking system. Phased arrays do not require mechanical tracking as they use phase shift to direct radiation.

Ok, thanks. Designing a DYI terminal won't be easy for these bands.

Is there any decent resource explaining how the whole mesh of Starlink sattelites communicate to each others and to the ground ? Do they use RF radio or modulated laser ? What equipment should be used by end users and what frequency range ?

My way of thinking was about high load servers mostly, where your idea works well for personal computing. In both cases a whole computing system should be designed to allow easy replacement of depleted silicon. Nowadays electronics designed

Mainframes ? Well, maybe, but in a bit different way. Motherboards and cables do not wearout, bridges and network interfaces most likely don't either. CPUs and RAM do. Concider a symmetrical multiprocessor system with a lot many multi-

In an event when CPUs become spare part, computing devices should be designed to allow fast repare or even hot-swap. Similar to HDDs, one can maintain a constant supply of CPUs in store that allows to change wore out parts fast without devi

TclTk is extremely cryptic. I used to code IVR scripts for Cisco access servers in early 20th, most of them still in use today. A couple of unsuccessful attempts were made to customize them by other people, but nobody (including me myself)

FYI. МЦСТ, a developer of the E2K CPUs has recently published an "Effective Programming of Elbrus CPUs" guide which describes its ISA. The document is in Russian. Link: http://www.mcst.ru/files/5ed39a/dd0

Great. Here's one: When producing a placement file for a PCB, can component part numbers be exported ? Neither Cadence, nor KiCAD stores components in their PCB files, only footprints, so part numbers cannot be easily accessed.

I possess a license of this OrCAD, it is exremely limiting (in terms of Constrains at least). KiCAD is even more feature rich in this case, and free. :-)

A year and a half ago we abandoned using Cadence and Altium in favour of KiCAD. Extremely high cost of licensing was a reason, but not the only one. Our first steps with KiCAD were hard and tiresome, my engineers even tried to sabotage the

Daniel, can you please elaborate on this: "Unregulated spread by individuals is a solution" ? How do you envision it ? Virus is not an open source software, you cannot just "make your own copy" without a physical contact

I would say the opposite - UHF signal can bounce from plane traces, this effect is known to be used by some UHF radio amateurs to conduct long distance (beyond the line of aight) QSOs.

FIR filter alone cannot do this, but combined with special coding like Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) does it pretty well. For example, CDMA and GNSS benefit from using DSSS.

I often wonder why SO_RCVTIMEO/SO_SNDTIMEO avaiable for sockets but not for file descriptors. Setting timeout once then using classic read/write on blocking FDs is easy, meaning error code handling is appropriate.

Did not know that, thanks. I searched for dc inside bc and could find a reference to /usr/bin/dc, so I think bc still is just a wrapper. % uname -a FreeBSD skyrocket 9.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE #1: Fri Nov 27 20:28:19 UTC

Well, I admit that soviet calculators were of nearaly same size and same functionality as their western siblings. Some, were very interesting from engineering and use points.
