What are the odds any electronic data store, tape or SSD or anything in between, could last that long? I guess some random store keeps getting moved from one storage device to another by accident, but beyond that I'm not sure if it is

Not Criminal but invalid DMCA takedowns do open you up to lawsuits. I'm curious if both sides (aka the registrar and Funko) are liable or only Funko.

.NET 9 has so much good stuff in it. Thing that I randomly realized I wanted only to find out it works in 9 is dictionary access with "related" types (so like if you have a ReadOnlySpan<char> you can use that to find a value

I feel like that argument is the new version of Trickle Down Economics. In a sane world where people are not greedy? Yeah it could make sense because without the constraints of limited capital you can do whatever you want and it lets you be

I ended up using multiple versions of basic because the various boot discs we had came with different versions. Off the top of my head I remember BASIC, BASICA, and QBASIC. Not that I remember the differences between the flavors any more.

I wish every language with TCO supported some way to tell the compiler "if this cannot be optimized away I want an error." All it takes is a moment of inattention to screw up.

I always miss pipeline operators in languages without them after F# exposed me to them.

Same as C#. Anything that doesn't rely on windows libraries (so like various GUI libraries from MS) works fine on Linux and Mac.

f# has improved a ton in the last decade. Rider and Ionide are both good environments to work on f# code in.

The c# team is supposedly putting in serious work on Discriminated Unions. I'm really interested to see how it turns out because f# already does a great job with them.

At least for me once I first encountered the pipeline operator it has made me dislike traditional inside out code a lot more.

Rust has had async for a while (though it can be painful, but I think request/response systems like APIs should not run into a lot of the major footguns). C# has excellent async for asp.net and has for a long time. I haven't touch

It doesn't necessarily have to be OO no. Rust uses RAII and it uses traits instead of traditional OO style inheritance etc. You do need something like destructors/drop trait for it to work as far as I know though.

I'm so curious to see how Verse ends up, since last I knew it was not even 1.0 yet but have not kept up in a while. But I recall being interested in the set of design decisions SPJ

Huh that sounds fascinating. Any idea if the kindle version is any good? Most programming books are awful on kindle (though I do have a Fire tablet which it might be fine for).

An interesting example of someone who structured their game in a way that was easy to port is Caves of Qud. Supposedly he got it from Unity to Godot (after the pricing fiasco) in a pretty short amount of time. https://www.reddit.

Sure there are tradeoffs but they still are concrete decisions. Do I care about X or Y more. Making a game fun is a bit of a black art. A little more juice (screen shake/SFX/etc) can make the exact same experience otherwise a lot

I keep (seems mistakenly) expecting them to try and push F# along with their dotnet ML tooling more since, while it is strictly typed, F# lets you mostly avoid making your types explicit so exploration of ideas in code is closer to Python t

Clancy is an incredible actor in his own right both voice and general. I'll always have a soft spot for him as Kurgan in the first Highlander movie. He was so... unsettling.

Hamill is a damned good voice actor, and I've really liked him in various things like as the Joker or even as the Watcher in Darksiders 1. I wouldn't put him anywhere near the level of James Earl Jones.

I'm not just talking still alive, I mean the younger generation. Like Morgan Freeman is also an iconic all-time voice. Is there even any actor in their 40s let alone 30s or 20s who have such an iconic voice dropping such powerful monol

The fact Pay and Ads both use, along with Youtube Create even, is a pretty good sign because if they have a non-trivial codebase of flutter/dart app(s) then killing it would impact all those teams who are doing important work. I'v
