I always refer to the Apple/NeXT acquisition as "the time NeXT bought Apple for negative $429 million."

Not that I run a site that's anywhere close to Reddit, but I was a bit scared to hear one of their admins mention MongoDB "suffered more than one bout of catastrophic data loss in my brief testing": http://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/co

Anecdotally, everyone I know who's been taught git with no prior VCS experience has had no problem with learning it.

Yes, it does. I wrote a small HTML5 offline-capable web app, processing a ~100KB JSON file with around 200 items. For ease of development, I initially used a JSON query library, which was perfectly fast on my laptop, a bit pokey on my 3GS,

As far as I know, the way Gmail handles conversations and archiving is unreplicated by any desktop client, and single-handedly the most powerful thing about Gmail. I now have a regular habit of archiving any message that doesn't have an act

On my 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, their "Site of the Day" can't even update the cursor regularly; it only updates once every second or two.

I honestly don't buy that. You find an iPhone lying on a street-corner? Then maybe you go through your own methods. You find an iPhone at a bar? The first place that person is going to look is at that bar . The sensible thing is to turn

Overall, I quite like it (better than iCombinator and trying to use HN directly). Only two problems I have: 1) It seems to crash on threads with too many comments... I'm guessing it runs out of RAM, perhaps? 2) I can't log in with my OpenID
