This is sort of ironic because many years ago what caused me to move functionality to client side was the fact that Ruby on Rails was slower on server side and required horizontal scale and things like memcached to meet my demands.

isn’t that the opposite of Occam’s Razor? a theory that makes a journalist part of an geopolitical intelligence conspiracy seems much more complex than the reality that data is fairly easily accessible.

oh don’t get me wrong, i’m not advocating for root certs and MITM boxes. i’m just saying DOH isn’t really going to challenge an enterprise’s ability to sniff and intercept DNS. notwithstanding other technical issues, it’s just bad practice

When enterprises own the devices on their networks they can add whatever root certificate they like and MITM filter whatever they like. This makes over the network traffic more secure and does nothing to really impact threat detection. If y

agree, the authors mention of hacking around activation servers on legacy products is as much the problem as anything. it’s an odd sort of expectation that we’d have to be able to emulate 3+ generations of hardware on top of one another jus

I agree with everything you just said there. What parts do you not see happening? It seems like the proceeds of the DOJ settlement and the unwinding of Purdue start to make funds available for treatment and remediation of some of the issues

This is a fundamental problem with commercial software. 15 years ago when this software was released the choice to have server authentication essentially was the original sin.

The first time I was in Europe on a road built for humans to walk on, I kept looking over my shoulder waiting for a car to make its way down the roads. I was pleasantly surprised.

Genuinely curious the alternative you would suggest. I think people can still access opioids legally, albeit much less easy than before. There are plenty of treatment options and the right answer isn’t to let drug addicts keep on ruining th

So since the market created functional drug addicts that’s ok and the government caused the problem by trying to stop the market from creating drug addiction?

The statistic they are describing as the “True Rate of Unemployment” isn’t that. It’s the rate of which society is earning a poverty level wage or less. It’s a useful statistic and one that deserves discussion but it’s not the “True Rate of

you shouldn’t have to learn about this by some rando reddit post. when a company adds some new egregious monetization scheme to something that a customer has a reasonable expectation of privacy to there should be a notice to the customer.
