This 100%. I was going to write something similar. In my entire 15 years in software engineering, the amount of times I've reached for a notebook pales in comparison to the amount of times I've relied on version control or a deb

Not illegal, but you will get taxed by CA. You can’t just register a business outside of CA, make a bunch of money here, and expect to get zero tax.

Good luck. Try making all your money while living in CA, with a business registered in Nevada. < insert gif of Michael Jackson eating popcorn >

>>> generally, an organism with a malignant tumor is less likely to reproduce. Huh? What is meant by this? Like if you have cancer, you are less likely to want to reproduce? Or, less likely to reproduce due to the illness?

I imagine being a healthy critic is a skill, something personal to be worked on. It’s just so easy to be critical and even if you have good intentions, being critical can take the wind out of a dreamers sails.

I agree but, doesn’t the world need critics? I think of a company where young inspired engineers want to build new things all the time. Their heart is in the right place but they need someone(s) to be respectfully critical since their effor

Everything you’ve described is exactly what forums are for. We didn’t need social media, we had everything we needed with the old PHP forums

I don’t think you can “train” these LLM models. You can augment them by providing tools they can reference, but you’re not changing the underlying model. What you’re describing - training your own model - would be a huge undertaking. You

I’ve got some tough news for you - Career growth is (almost) never a completely straight line. You will be promoted into positions, using languages, in domains, all of which isn’t “your” language or “your” domain. If you’re being asked to d

Collaboration in person is a force multiplier. The problem is corporations and CEOs are the ones getting all the benefit from that. The average employee is no better off in RTO, so why would you expect them to want that? For the record, I

It's very easy to have rose colored glasses when remembering the 90s. I'm not trying to discount your entire point, but rather, argue that what was true in that economic climate might not be the same today. Do I believe people wer

I think the underlying problem here is that despite what the stock market would have you believe, sales are down, moral is down, and many industries are experiencing light to moderate headwinds. RTO is an (desperate) attempt to resuscitate

Yes, I think about it almost every day. It’s always baffled me that everyone else seems to either not care, or to be able to stuff this question deep into the backrooms of their mind and never let it surface. To me, it’s absolutely mind bog

I’ve had an unfortunately opposite experience with UEVR. Seems very hard / impossible to get games working correctly without fiddling with the settings for hours. Not sure what I am doing wrong honestly.

I see your point, and I agree. Maybe I should have said “web development” because while it’s true that the WEB can still be simple, it’s the world of professional development that has gone off the rails. So much tooling. So many packages.
