Because if you say a = "puts" in the other langs it wouldn't work. The other languages are assigning a function to a variable. Tcl is assigning a string to a variable, then evaluating the string as a function based on syntax.

Quick plug for ledger-cli (and hledger, and beancount). It is a command line tool for double entry bookkeeping in plain text files. All your transactions get recorded in a human readable file, and then you can run pretty complex queries ove

There really are birds that have predator warning calls. Other animals even listen for them and hide when they hear them.

They don't intercede for some authority, though. Bodhisattvas are more like the folks that hold the door open for people and don't leave until everyone else has.

Well, for stocks, the P/E ratio is also extraordinarily high, so it's not inflation there. At least not mostly. The stock market is just overvalued and there will be a correction at some point in the future.

I very much disagree that it's a lost battle. It's not hard to put blue light filters on screen when it gets dark, and limit bright screen usage before bed. But I do agree that melatonin and magnesium is a great idea as part of a

Could this be an epigenetic/gene expression change caused by increased use of our forearm and hand muscles? For instance, how I'm typing this right now, and how children write a lot more than they used to.

In the good timeline, KitKat had a dash in its name, Fruit of the Loom had a cornucopia in its logo, Pikachu had black on the end of its tail, C3PO didn't have a silver leg, and you could go up in the torch of the Statue of Liberty.

Done out of anger, it rarely works. When someone honks at you in anger when in traffic, you might take time to self-reflect on what you've done wrong, if you've committed any antisocial behavior, and what you might do differentl

The evolutionary reason is survival. When you were ostracized from your group, or attacked by others in the group, for tens of thousands of years, that meant certain death. Now it doesn't, and our emotional evolution hasn't caught

I suppose it depends on how you define "from scratch". Pretty much anyone can build a desktop PC from parts in a single day. That's what would make the most sense in this context as well, probably. Target a simple CPU design

1. You have to get comfortable editing your own config, as much or even more than editing your own .vimrc. I don't think you have to become a lisp master, just understand what is going on like you probably do with vimscript. 2. Conside

That sounds like something you could add to dired mode and bind to a key without too much trouble. It's my understanding that you sort of have to start molding emacs to your particular style, and that the defaults are kind of bad. I ha

Emacs has something like that as well with the right plugins. Ctrl+h f then fuzzy type what you want to do. Or, like usual, alt+x then start typing to just execute that command instead of reading about it. You just need the plugin Helm, or

Most things you can do with a custom ASIC chip you can do with an FPGA, except with slower clock speeds. High speed signal processing, massive parallel designs, custom anything pretty much. You can (and often do) even have processors inside
