This is because ATSes still use keyword boolean search rather than semantic and natural language search. It's super frustrating. I'm working on building an ATS that lets you search for things like "experience scaling a compan

Complaining about a CEO seeking regulatory capture seems like complaining about a lion eating a gazelle. It's the natural order of things in American corporations. But like a lion eating a gazelle, it still turns my stomach to watch.

This will be another example of the power of distribution. It doesn't have to be better than Chat GPT. It just has to be good enough. This is similar to Slack vs Microsoft Teams. Slack had a several year head start on product, but Micr

I built the first "post-play" experience for Netflix. It made it so that Netflix would automatically start playing the next episode of the show you are watching after a 15 second count down. We built it in the Silverlight player o

I have a theory that the present seems worse than the past because of anxiety - the fear of what might happen in the future. In most cases, what we fear does not happen and so when we look back, the past almost always seems happier than the

A similar thing happened at Netflix in 2011. My coworker kept buying options and I stopped. His stock grew to $34M. Mine recovered to six figures. If you can buy more, and you have confidence in the company, that’s what I would do.

Heroku uses the host name to route requests. So you wouldn't serve another site, it would just give you an error that your site wasn't found or something.

We use cloudflare. If you look up the IP address for your public domain name, you will get the cloudflare IP, yes. If you lookup the IP address of the CNAME target, you will get the heroku IP.

We just deployed a workaround that brought our site back up. 1. Find your DNS Target in heroku. It should end with .herokudns.com 2. Lookup the historical DNS record to get the IP addresses. You can find historical DNS records here: https:

The leap from "recommending" content to "generating" content reminds me of the leap from cars that we drive on the ground and cars that fly. It seems like the future, but it's much further away than we think.
