Looks impressive, but proof will be in the actual day to day dev experience and configuration, not the perf. Vite and esbuild are fast enough, and I feel the winner will be more about usability, docs, easy config, etc. That aside, it is ju

Wow. I think your reply demonstrates the crux of the issue perfectly. I can't tell if its satire or not. It is insane that this level of workaround and hacks is required to avoid advertising and crapware on a £500+ _television_. Normal

Not true at all, at least for Ruby. Most larger React projects have _far more_ dependencies_ than an equivalent Ruby project. You could chalk it up to a few things I think: * the JS ecosystem is just much larger - more devs (especially inex

It doesn't take much to beat JIRA ;). But seriously, Linear is one of the best project management tools I've used. They do an SPA pretty well, which is rare, and its powerful yet pretty simple to use. I do find it a bit hard to wr

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Unraid here yet ( https://unraid.net ). You install it to a USB, put the USB into whatever you want as a server, and boot it up from the USB. The OS and config gets loaded into a ram drive.

I'm sure everyone's mileage will vary based on experience / comfort with the particular stack here... but in my experience shipping a monolith (Python, Ruby, whatever) to a VPS is vastly simpler than a comparable Next/Ve

I could've been more clear in my original post. I'm not just thinking about "getting an app running": ruby, rbenv, and bundler has had that solved for many years, and npm, nvm (or whatever and js is stable there as well.

Are you being serious? Have you tried to get a "modern JS app" or Python web app running (safely, w/o massive security vulnerabilities) that is even a few years old? All code rots, and it rots quickly. Its the a reality of mo

It took me a while to find out what Canva actually does, but from https://www.canva.com it appears they are an online design / collab tool. To be fair, that could mean a _lot_ of functionality and code providing a rich, SPA

I refused to use Spotify from early on because it is so anti-album. The interface just sucks for playing albums, and its ridiculous that they haven't fixed it. Playlists are fine for parties or when you want to discover new music, but

Yuuup. That is the genius of Heroku. They make almost everything very simple and the tougher stuff relatively easy to understand and configure. All of that took many many years of iteration and refinement, which is why the competitors are g

I agree 100% on the misdirection happening on many of these so-called Heroku replacements. Offering me 'kube-as-a-service' over a layer of AWS or whatever on top of some massive cloud provider isn't really a heroku competitor

From what I’ve heard from people who use Twitter far more than me: the only way to avoid them is to use a 3rd party client for Twitter.
