FYI private schools are not immune to these problems. The administration of some private schools choose to have similar policies (accept late work indefinitely, minimum grade of 50%, etc) at their school.

if an estate is worth less than ~$10 million, it is exempt from the estate tax, so you can pass on a few million to your children no problem. IIUC, basically no one with significant estates actually pays the estate tax, so I don't thin

How does Google funneling billions of dollars in revenue through Bermuda help the families there who are living in poverty? Google's only presence in Bermuda was a P.O. box.

FWIW, the active channel volume is much more than a dozen atoms in a modern FinFET process. For a ~5nm process, there might be only a few dozen atoms across the width of the fin, but the other dimensions are much larger, for a total of prob

this was a fun read, thanks for sharing. FYI, the transfers from pageable memory almost certainly do not go to the storage device in your system, unless you have high memory pressure. "pageable" (as a cuda-ism) does mean that the

I think the contrast is probably less about the language, and more about the scope and objective of the projects. the blog is describing low-level interfaces in python - probably more comparable is the old CUDAdrv.jl package (now merged int

I will always upvote Heaviside. This man is responsible for most of the foundation of electrical engineering as it exists today (via and refined by others, especially those at Bell Labs who recognized the importance of his work). Unfortunat

it wasn't really cool-aid - while this is amazing progress, I think it's still a pretty long way to having M1 with Linux usable as a laptop. The GPU seems like it will be a big lift without documentation or support from apple.

One person's (resolved) issue does not capture everything that happens with rust. https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/41555 : "Tracking issue for Path Prefix Remapping", stabilized in 2018.

Rust supports reproducible builds. There are options to remap file prefixes. This is the same situation as gcc and clang.

▲
by

the current status is that rustc has flags to remap the file paths, which I think makes the situation with rust the same as the situation with every other build system. pretty much every build system will by default leak paths and times and

This seems mostly irrelevant to the example in the post. Why does it matter who wrote the copy constructor? In the author's example, they did not write a copy constructor, they USEd std::string.
