Every time Pluto is discussed as a planet, I remember that, according to IAU, Earth is not a planet. A planet is a celestial body, earth isn't.

The first value is definetly not zero, enough companties profit from selling ads. The second, I'd like to remind you of the Target pregnancy story (possible hoax) or, more real, the Ashley Madison leaks.

Sure you can! (For yubikey OTP key strings at least) Just have yubikey sign the current time, you're already trusting them to correctly verify the key string. U2F is a different animal though. The question is then: does timestamping th

From a firewall POV: Can the host system reliably interact mechanically with the VM? I.e., can the host get root in the VM? If so, a firewall only reduces the attack surface by eliminating the obvious.

Chanced are, they would have "fixed" it for me. By accepting ALL EULA's. iirc, I could accept half before updating. Edit: also, it was a gift.

My TV needed a firmware upgrade to get HDMI working. You need to accept EULA's before connecting and updating.

The smaller the box, the more invasive it feels. But even general (codified in law) categorisations such as gender already feel discriminating in our modern society.

For me, I cannot put a value to the transaction. I have done enough searches that can embarrass me, label me, or hurt me. Maybe some were illegal; I probably am on a lot of lists. Political searches are enough to alienate a lot of people.

Sure, but then no product should be able to buy end-cap space. Not just disallowing competitors. And in fact, Target/Walmart clearly enforce limits on what is sold. They don't advertise 'Become an Amazon seller' or open

As long as I remember there have been no complaints about restricting advertisements. (Although plenty of other anti-competitive behaviour) Amazon touts a 'free' marketplace where anybody can sell and advertise their product. Yet

Because of the frequent fraud and anti-fraud problems checks have. As far as I know, most people in the USA need that money that day or that week. Any delay is risky. ID-fraud or a flagged check seems like a nerve wracking incident.

Yes, even with preserving there is too much meat. DDG says one cow has about 250 kg of meat. This is enough to feed a family for over a year. There is also enough edible meat that cannot be preserved: the head, some organs. These are prepar

Cache sizes are nowhere near the size where a O(log n) factor is significant. In 1TB ram you can fit at most 2^36 entries (64-bit key to 64-bit value without additional datastructures). A factor of 36 is easily dominated by CPU-cache behav

The functions minNum and maxNum ([IEEE 754-2008, 5.3.1, p19]) take two arguments and return the min and max, respectively. They have the special, distinguished property that “if exactly one argument is NaN, they return the other. If both ar
