I was thinking about this naming issue the other day, and I'm glad they made a move. I convinced myself they'd rename to simply Stack for shortness' sake. I still think they should; stack.com doesn't look too expensive.

Javascript. Java is something else. Go jQuery though, in my opinion. It lets you do what you need to do without actually knowing javascript, in most cases.

Cool idea! My co-founder and I used to use pictures of Olivia Wilde as placeholders. It started with just one and then became a sort of tradition. Kittens are cool too, though.

Thanks, I'll add it to my reading list. ...actually, do you have anything older to recommend? Books these days just don't seem to measure up.

"It's a myth that we've fallen from our glory days." This one seems to pop up a lot. Not just in education, but in everything. Is it just a sort of cultural nostalgia, a collective-but-selective memory? I'd be interested in seeing studies

Started on a honeymoon. Great story. They say a co-founder is like a spouse and a startup is like a marriage, but you two are bringing it to a whole new level.

As someone in a similar situation, I gotta give you props. You lasted longer than I did. A bank would tell you that 90% of businesses in this situation fold within a few months. Add that to our already-high tech startup failure rates and yo

And Steve Jobs could kick a puppy as his next "one more thing." It doesn't mean shareholders would be happy about it. "We can afford it" is a terrible response to bad PR. He needs to act quickly and make this right. Apologize. Give the guy

I heard from an article that I read recently that he wasn't, in fact, a nice guy. Maybe you had different experiences with him, but now most people who have read about him just think he's some 24-year-old punk trying to be Steve Jobs. That'

The shuttle always lands by itself. Looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R2dCWZ92ew If you've seen the shuttle on the back of a 747, that's just for transport, not landing.

Maybe call them tile drawings or something? I too was expecting something like drawball when I read "collaborative drawing." Quilts, patchworks, lots of words to play off here. Get the artists' permission to use their work in the design of

Every time I ask, "Why don't you use Tropo?" I invariably hear "What's Tropo?" It's a shame, because it is pretty great. I think the word is finally getting out now, though.

It's always interesting to see how a speaker reacts to technical problems. When the projector goes down, or the laptop isn't booting up, watch the speaker. If he's good, it's no big deal at all to him. If he isn't, he'll probably be a mess.

What's funny about this is that you can go on Amazon right now and buy something like this. it's not an original idea by ANY means. Pure execution. And people love it.

....and? Translation issues aside, they did make it from scratch. Sorta. It's hard to point to any software written in the past two decades and say it was made "from scratch." I guess it really depends on what you define as an ingredient.

Hackers typically research something very, very in-depth (compared to the average consumer) before buying it. Brands are good enough for most people. Also, I think there's some natural law against declaring brand loyalty dead immediately af

The Valley is already expensive enough! Although "NYCYC" is a fun acronym. I think Techstars just started up in NYC-- check them out. YC says they aren't an incubator. I think they're more like the eggshell. Seems silly at later stages mayb

Most who decide it's not worth it would (or rather, should) do so ahead of time. I see. Still, give a free car to a hundred people and at least one will complain about the color of the interior. There's gotta be a sour YC alumnni out there

I like YC as much as the next guy, but here's an important question: Why have we never seen a blog post saying that it's not worth it? Even if YC has an extremely high satisfaction rate, the sheer number of startups they've funded has to ha

Like I said, you're technically right. But nobody describes Harvard admissions as some contest that they hold. YCombinator is a lot closer to that than the New York Marathon.

Anyone else think it's interesting that he described the Y Combinator application process as "holding a contest"? I guess it fits the technical definition, but it sure makes it sound like PG is drawing names from a hat.

So far I've found this to be true with PPM. It's hard to get producers to sign up without promoters being on board, but not nearly as hard as the opposite situation.
