For me it’s the opposite. I don’t have any junk food at home but when I was in the office I was constantly surrounded by pretzels, ice cream and candy bars. I also often do some work in the backyard while I am thinking about a problem.

Totally agree. But with newbies I feel it’s very important to check from time to time if they are banging their heads on the right wall.

There will be a lot of these people maintaining the currently fashionable microservice/multiple languages/use as many AWS services as possible/scalable systems in a few years.

It was clear that making drugs legal wouldn't solve all problems. What needs to happen is that the budgets that got spent on prosecuting and imprisoning drug users now gets spent on treatment options.

Having been in a jury this debate format is a big problem. If one of the sides is not good at presenting their case, there is a problem. In one of my cases the prosecution had an expert witness that stated some totally wrong facts about vis

Who actually is at that scale? Not many. For everybody else you create a lot of complexity for no benefit.

I had one as a rental and I thought it's great. Right size, enough power, maybe the handling could a little better/sportier. We need more smaller, utilitarian cars instead of the ever bigger cars that are being sold.

That’s what I am thinking. I am ok with food subsidies but we should direct them towards healthy food.

I bet crypto will have the same problems any other type of money has once it gets widely used. I don’t see anything in crypto that can solve our current problems.

Buterin reminds me a little of string theorists in physics. There is a lot of intellect but they have chosen to chase something that doesn't produce anything really useful despite a ton of effort.

I think history tells us that capitalists/aristocracy/owners don't voluntarily share their gains with the rest. They are perfectly fine living in splendor while the populace lives in poverty. And they tell themselves stories

That's definitely the case at my company. To get to the same pay grade that even mediocre managers get promoted to by default, an IC basically has to walk on water.
