Considering that company profits and the income of the top 20% went up, it seems fair that other income goes up too. There may be some inflation but I think wage earners would still be much better off.

Same for US hospitals and health insurance. They constantly make “mistakes” in their favor and the worst thing that can happen is that they have to pay what they are required to pay anyways.

Totally agree. There should be a standard that uses access keys and provides APIs to access the data. If that existed I could easily cobble something together with some python scripts and a database.

I still miss MS Money. It did everything I needed and I didn't hand over my account passwords to a cloud service like Mint. It's kind of mindboggling that this got ever accepted as the way to do things.

It's always amazing to think that somebody at some point had to invent things we now take for granted and feel like they just have to be that way. As a sidenote it's sad that WinFS failed.

I remember taking to a film maker at Yellowstone. He told me that you have a fixed amount of time and budget to get footage. If you don’t get everything you need, you fill with some other footage. That footage may be from previous projects

Agree about AI. It would be way more patient and take its time to talk to the patient than doctors have these days.

“ expensive fixes instead of actually addressing root causes.” There is the old quote “the Americans will always do the right thing. Right after they have tried everything else”. It feels like this in a lot of social issues like health care

Imagine how well companies would do if we would do away with these pesky workplace safety regulations and the five day workweek the unions fought for.

"I find it odd that there is this widespread meme—on HN, not in the industry—that microservices are never justified" I think the problem is the word "micro". At my company I see a lot of projects that are run by three de

I wish we would give tech writers and generally the art of writing more respect. My company is in the medical field so we have to produce a ton of documentation. Turns out most developers aren't good writers, don't really want to

I have heard similar stories from US teachers I hike with. Parents will side with their kinds or just not care and school administration will side with the parents or do nothing. This leaves teachers having to deal with discipline issues bu

I really wish US politicians would adopt some truth standard in campaigning. I know they won’t do that but it would be really nice if the constant blatant lying would stop. I don’t think AI will make the situation much worse. If anything, i

Do you still have to enter all your data or does it prefill the data it already knows like W-2 and 1099? That’s where the real benefit comes in my opinion.

I feel in today's workplace we need to collaborate all the time (preferably in a loud open office) and nobody needs to do any actual work. I love to collaborate but my best work got done when I had several weeks of uninterrupted focus
