Isn't that description completely incomprehensible? It seems to be saying (in a roundabout way) that each participant was part of all 3 groups, with them taking the drug, placebo and nothing for a third of the year. There's a reas

Python dependency management is the dragon-tyrant, and Poetry slayed it. And now we all wonder why it wasn't done years ago.

Not sure about the downvoting, the license is extremely strange. Forbidding individuals from sharing any changes they've made to the software is the complete opposite of what most licenses do. Also, CC explicitly discourages use of t

Is this doing some motion/object detection to automatically find good clips? I notice it's captured a clip of a crow wandering around the Edinburgh Zoo penguin enclosure ;)

I'd never heard the word 'lox' before (British). Etymonline[0] suggests that it arrived in American English in the 20th century via Yiddish. So I guess technically the English word has only existed for <100 years :( [0]:

It seems to me that this website was deliberately targeted so Google could stand up in the future and say that they also censor the left. Reddit did a similar thing in a recent ban wave where they picked off a few fairly tame left-wing subs

Unfortunately I can't see the results, and it's not working on archive.org either. What exactly does time-to-interactive mean? On my actual mobile (firefox with ublock), new reddit takes about 6-7 seconds to load in the actual con

I don't think it's much less hazardous than cigarette smoke, it's just that people don't tend to smoke 20 joints a day. Also, a bit of secondhand smoke outside isn't dangerous, it just smells bad.

I think the reason the example with the photo is useful is because it shows how the colourmap creates features where none exist in the data (due to the nonlinear gradient). When looking at the photo with Jet I can see discrete areas of flat

I have rarely seen Jet used as a divergent colourmap (i.e. in places where the data is roughly centred around 0), and it would do a particularly poor job at this. There are two perceptual peaks in lightness, in the cyan and yellow sections,

Quoting an authorities opinion on this matter is kind of oxymoronic when their opinion is that this isn't something to be dictated by authority. One wonders if it isn't slightly self-sabotaging of them to take this position.
