Presumably one of the benefits of running your own model is that you can feed extra data into it via training rather than purely through inference? I.e. if you're a software company you could fine-tune it on your codebase, improving it

"We have to be first". That's it. That's the entire business case. They want to be first, and they think that'll turn them into the market leader.

We used to see those articles, but now that the models are actually good enough to be useful I think people are much more willing to overlook the flaws.

Even if you set the data format to 'currency' it still returns false (in Google Sheets). I realise they probably want consistency but it's weird they don't have an option to use a decimal type.

A common theme seems to be humans taking output from an algorithm and blindly making decisions based on it, even when specifically told that the output shouldn't be used as the sole basis for a decision or even as evidence as all, othe

When studying data science we had a major assignment that involved stock predictions. I came out on top of the class because I told my model to only bet when it was >90% sure of the outcome, discarding the result otherwise. The rest of t

For scrolling I've always found a trackpad to be equal, if not better, than a touch screen. They feel nicer and are quicker and more accurate. Obviously not as versatile as a touchscreen though. I'd ben fine with it if it didn

Why is it even possible for an application to install root certificates that other applications have to accept? An individual application accepting its own certificates is one thing (as Firefox does), but I can't think of a good reason

I'm interested in how large you think the database might grow? One of the biggest benefits I can see in a site like this is the possibility of discovering 'hidden gems' that aren't well know and thus hard to find, but of

Let me get this straight - they paid a company to scrape data for them, and then sued them for scraping their own data as well?

With a paid subscription to OpenAI you can fine-tune their models on additional data, so if you're a business trying to offer an AI based chat help or something this seems achievable.

I assume there's a certain danger in letting it consume data in real time. It wouldn't be hard to trick the web crawler into ingesting undesirable content, and people would quickly start asking it questions like "why is the m

I'm glad they did this, it often produced very wordy answers to straightforward questions, like it was trying to pad out the word count on an essay. In the long run it will be important to get it to better determine how long a response

Even on 2.4GHz the internet connection is usually the limiting factor anyway, unless you're on a high speed network with a lot of congestion.

I thought that might be the case, but if higher frequency 5G signals are susceptible to small black spots due to buildings etc what's the solution? Presumably they aren't going to deploy enough 'microcells' to cover ever

Every tech journalist moans about Macs lacking touch screens, but I really hope it never happens. Touch interfaces and desktop interfaces are fundamentally different and having both just forces a lot of compromise. But it seems like Apple g

Agreed, it's well established that deviating for the normal rules of grammar makes writing harder to read. Breaking it in a deliberate fashion can work, but I don't think this is that. A lot of language is technically redundant bu

Does a device need to specifically support WebUSB, or will it work with any USB device so long as the web page supports it? Or is it the browser that needs to support the device? I found contradictory information on this when searching.
