I haven't used the new version of QtWebKit yet, but I've heard the changes are pretty huge and they basically bring QtWebKit back up to par with other modern web browsers. It's pretty exciting to see one of the lesser known w

This gets weird when you compare it to how structs work in C. Both are complex data types, so I sometimes forget that array semantics are totally different to struct/union semantics. Unlike arrays, in ANSI C, structs are real value typ

I'd love to see more web apps that use WebCrypto to encrypt data on the client side, but WebCrypto has a problem. It's hard to trust programs that run on the web. Even if the app promises to encrypt user data, someone in control o

This sounds like an application/website problem rather than an operating system problem. You don't need to distribute both an EXE and an MSI installer. That's like distributing both a .pkg installer and a .dmg/.zip for y

This is just a style nitpick, but there a are a lot of extraneous scrollbars ( https://0x0.st/LT1.png ). It looks like this was designed on a Mac, where overflow: scroll works the same as overflow: auto and scrollbars take up

There's an argument to be had about FOSS vs. proprietary software in general, but I think it's pretty clear when it comes to emulators. There is something wrong with closed-source emulators. Everyone who develops an emulator for a

Agreed wrt. the permissions gate. I wish more web APIs used these. I think there's an argument going around that these things are bad UX because they train the user to ignore prompts and just accept anything and everything so they can

No. Removing options seems to be a common trend in modern software design and I hate it. The prevailing wisdom seems to be that if there's a choice between doing something two different ways, rather than adding an option, the developer

I know Qt Quick Controls 2.x focuses on mobile, but I'm still waiting for it to get a native look-and-feel on the desktop. Qt Widgets is near-perfect if you want native look-and-feel across desktop platforms, but since all the focus is

True that. Of the three programs I can see on my desktop right now (Chrome, WebStorm and Outlook,) none of them are even remotely trying to look consistent with the rest of the operating system. On the other hand, Office 2000 looks right at

Well, I just made a static build of a Qt 5.7 project that required the SVG image format plugin, so it's definitely possible. In qmake projects, it all happens automatically if you specify the plugins you use in the QTPLUGINS variable.
