Well done.. even more powerful because this isn't typical fare on this website. If read on a personal development website, it would read like more content fodder. Read here, it reads like amazing.

This is pretty obvious to me, made complicated by people who want super answers or miracle get rich quicks or anything like that. If you see your weight every day and seeing it going up, you eat less. If you see it going down, you get motiv

This was arguably the funniest I have ever seen Conan - you can see how he got his start. He was funny as hell, people loved him, then he got reined in to the standard talk show paradigm. He was still funny enough in that setting to make it

I'm getting distracted by the sheer number of people talking about how they got distracted while writing a distraction article. We get it. Added irony, reading this article instead of working. Subtracted irony, writing that sentence after w

Thanks for this resource, whoever compiled this is a godsend. Extra plus for wanting 0 benefit from it (besides maybe Hacker News karma?).

"See Randomness" by Paul Graham fits here. Yes, you didn't get the job, but the person never meant to make you mull and wait. You just weren't their first priority, put e-mailing you back on the back burner, then went off to do something el

It wouldn't be a morale nightmare for me, but for those people who aren't as motivated and are just sitting at the poverty line in terms of their progression in the workplace, knowing about stuff like this can loom over their head and creat

This would become a morale nightmare if employees were ever aware this was taking place, unfortunately. Pretty hard to pull off with consistency/as a standard because of this.

I couldn't comment, either. My comment, though, is this: Thanks for summating it, good post/review. My favorite part was this line, which summarizes the thing essentially: "Optimists explain GOOD events with permanence, whereas pesimists at

I liked this quote, taken from DHH from 37signals: "“An idea is such a small part of a business that it’s almost a rounding error”. If you only have one competitor, you're OK. If you have 4,000, you aren't. Something bigger to consider is w

Somehow, Smashing Magazine is broke. Their content is incredible but they can't pay the bills. "I dumb down for my audience and double my dollars / they criticize me for it; but they all yell 'holla!'" Smashing, your move.

The thing about "grades" is that the mindset that revolves around getting them can change instantly. They aren't necessarily a sign of intelligence, more of work ethic. If a person is shown progress or potential in an area of motivation, th

This reminds of Seth Godin's "Linchpin", it's kinda the same idea. Misfits provide value that can't be placed on a resume in terms of job skills - but they do have the ability to provide value that creates hearty, intense recommendations fr

So you're mad they're basically turning from a free model to a freemium model? The whole "privacy" thing is just ridiculous. When is Facebook's selling of your info ever going to impair on your real life? The information they sell is never

This reminds me of 37signals ideology a good bit. It works for them, but not everyone. But props to you for doing what they don't - not shoving it down our throats, opening it up for conversation, and accepting potential barriers to success

Interesting point, can we really substantiate that if he originally sent that through e-mail? I could see something in his head clicking that it was bullshit but I see more formal, orchestrated evilness would have constructed this in a form

This is the problem with Jon Stewart's platform. People take it too seriously. Stewart has explicitly said that taking him seriously is a misstep - don't. He is going to say some poignant, legit stuff, but if you take it as a comprehensive

I don't think it takes rigorous, time intensive application to improve oneself. Many of these "data trackers" take a few seconds a day. Write down some calories. Jot down sleep hours. Etc.

Thanks James. I got many of these from Hacker News. I thought there would be some sort of push against this getting any traction because I submitted it, but I figured the community would enjoy it.
