how did that go?

No. UWP is windows phone 10 only. However on practice the core code had not changed massively. UWP also won't work on Windows 8 or 8.1. I have a moderately successful win 8 app which I'm updating to UWP. It's taking forever t

Purely for my own use. My primary phone is a wp8.1 handset. I want to replace OneNote with an app that uses text files on dropbox as a datastore. That way I can write on the phone and pick it up later on the desktop like I can with one note

I'm literally working on a Windows Phone 8 app this instant. I took five mins out to check HN. I agree with the sentiment though - UWP is the way to go

Nice to see projects that convert HTML to markdown. Projects to convert in the other direction (md to html) are far more common. Parsing HTML is tough

I'm in a situation where a lot of my work projects have been axed or replaced with newer projects. I have very little professional stuff to show, sadly. But I do have some side projects I'm very proud of, and I'm dammed if I&

Physical board game is a cool language. You have to roll your own garbage collection though.

I'm feeling an increasing sense of hostility towards "web devs" lately.

by roryisok 9y ago
What does that mean? The web is already cross platform, that's kind of the whole point

The performance problems with electron are widely known, but I rarely see anyone complain about electron usability ? Surely that's got nothing to do with the underlying technology?

I don't have a super strict standard, but there are a couple of conventions I follow. ISO date format - 2017-05-23. Yyyymmdd is the only numerically sortable date format, whatever dividers you use I use spaces, not underscores I keep e

I convinced my family to install telegram and we set up a telegram group to share baby photos and news. It works very well for us

This is such a wide open question, very hard to answer. Can you be more specific?

by roryisok 9y ago
This is a good point. I love telegram, but can't completely give up whatsapp because I have a few friends who just won't use telegram. I really wish they would move to telegram, but they're stubborn, and they in turn have fri

2500 movies a year? Who has time for that? Are there seriously people out there trying to download and store every movie released in 2017? I don't think I'd even approach watching 1% of the movies released in a year. I'm ofte

I find if the story is engrossing enough the quality doesn't really matter too much.

MY friend thought he was doing well with an almost full 2TB drive, which also contains movies. But then again most of his stuff is 480p. He has a 42" tv and from 12 feet away he finds it quite difficult to notice any difference with HD
