I don't know why you would think apple devices are inherently safer. I've had two macbooks and probably seven or eight Windows laptops. The macbooks suffered from swelling batteries, over heating chargers and frayed power cords. T

How many "full fat" social networks are there though, really? In the English speaking world it's pretty much just Facebook. I don't think I'd even count twitter as a place where you have "all your friends"

I did not make this, just found it. Seems like a really interesting alternative to electron.

Is that still true? I thought Google stopped funding Mozilla recently. Edit: Just checked, they had a deal with Google until 2014 when they signed with yahoo instead. As of 2017 they switched back to Google as the fault search engine but th

It depends on what you consider "better". I'd much rather install an electron app than mount and run a docker container, and I say that as a developer who uses docker every single day.

I've often wondered this. You could write a set of generic webview based apps (say, Windows 10 and MacOS to start) and a small js library that would allow cross platform access to low level apis, even just a few at first like file dial

I'm a big fan of Billy, however it's Windows only and not available for download anymore. I'm not sure why you'd suggest it in this context

My point was the browser has no file access. Most electron apps work with the filesystem in some way, and in the browser it's not possible to, for instance, give a web app access to a folder on the desktop

Ie mobile on windows phone 8.1. It's an edge case and I don't expect people to test on it. But at the same time, it would be nice if the page gracefully fell back to something that wasn't just a blank white page

It's a laudable idea, and I'm very interested in seeing the information, but because of whatever framework choices you've made (I'm assuming some heavy client side work), with no lightweight fallback, I see literally not
