What's the "mothership"? I tried Chrome, FF, Opera and Safari - all of them showed my exact location.

Nope, maxmind detects my location incorrectly (25 miles off).

Yes, I do have a router, but I doubt google has visited us, we only recently moved here. There's no street view anywhere near here, as I said.

Hmmm, yes, my wife used her iPhone. But who is "they"? Who has my precise coordinates?

Because I tried it without google, just using this: navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(callback) Gives you the same precise coordinates, in all browsers I've tried.

That doesn't really answer anything. In my case, there's no wifi, I'm on cable. So it must use my IP. Yet all other IP->location services I've tried are not even close. I'm asking because I'm writing some code that would benefit greatly

Ask HN: how is browser geolocation so precise?

If looks like there was something very bright there, probably a sun reflection, and older digital sensors have a problem with that, it's called "blooming" and "streaking". Basically the charge in one "pixel" is so high, it leaks to the neig

JVM execution (a Java applet I assume) now requires a confirmation, at least in Chrome.

Javascript has at least 2 ways to do parallel processing without any extensions 1) Worker threads 2) WebGL shaders Anything else has almost no chance at taking off.

If you really care about low latency, get a dedicated server. You will even get better specs if you spend the same money. There are amazing deals out there, like this one: https://robot.your-server.de/order

So the prices are pretty much identical to Amazon EC2. Why would anybody choose an unknown player versus somebody very experienced like Amazon?

Yeah, Google keeps making the same mistake by doing the closed invitation-only beta thing. My google plus is basically programmers and google employees posting shit from reddit and HN.

Warning: negativity ahead. If you want to learn design, why don't you read something from a real designer, not Kadavy. I mean, look at his personal website, it has the shittiest design. Even his book cover has a crappy design (WTF is this h

Your landing page sucks. I have no idea what the website is about. "Discover & Share Future Happenings" is extremely vague.

It looks like it gets stuck in a local maximum. Too bad it takes such a long time to test each turbine. I wonder if it can be GPU accelerated. Seriously, I've never wasted my CPU time on Folding@Home ot SETI@Home, but I would give it for so

That would break the usability. Right now you know that horizontal axis = lists, vertical = items in lists. The only thing that I don't like is horizontal scrolling.

The problem with all these online storage services is uploading your data. At my 1 mbit uplink it would take 97 days of non-stop uploading to upload 1TB. That's if my ISP doesn't ban me.
