It's been touched on in many other comments, but I think that one of the key things that affects reading proficiency is practice time. This definitely includes being read to ; parents spending time reading to their kids is often a lar

"Fast" is just another optimisation goal in a spectrum. First make it correct, then make it good, then make it fast (is a reasonable rubric).

I've fond memories of (badly) assembling a few Tamiya models as a young lad, and (badly) painting them with dad's old enamel and spray paints. Their stuff is still the benchmark for IRL scale kits. Much respect.

I recently watched a YouTube video that described how American fire trucks have gotten progressively larger over time, which may help explain some of the cost increase: https://youtu.be/j2dHFC31VtQ?si=6yTFjZQwlJz5OZkp

Good article, but I found it a little too abstract to derive much actionable information. IMO the most useful point is this quote: So when you encounter someone whose worldview seems impenetrable, remember: you’re not just arguing with

This is a crude strawman argument at best. I don't disagree that compliance/regulation requirements can be overdone, but unfettered progress-at-any-cost has its own downside. History is overloaded with technological innovations fo

There's a segment of the population who are vehemently against the idea of undeserving/lazy/the wrong people receiving any kind of welfare benefit, and the concept of UBI really, really triggers that segment. To the point w

I'd bet that their stickiest problem will be restoring and replacing all the weird IT-OT interface parts (e.g. some random Windows 98 box which is the only thing can run the CNC). No one ever thinks to document or back up those things.

Yep, I don't disagree with your point here at all. I'm a former distance runner who gave himself knee tendonitis by overdoing it, so I definitely accept the risk of overtraining. I guess that I was trying to make the point that a

I owe the current (probably final) phase of my professional IT career to Django, now having used it in production of ~15 years. I got in around the 1.0.* release mark so I missed any possible early instability, and have found it an absolute

I'm inspired. I need to start trying for this sort of consistency with resistance training. While I'd never advocate for "no days off", a lifetime of progress is built on a lifetime of participation.

I watched this film last night, and it was stunning and horrifying all at once. It really brings home the impact of industrial-scale trawling on the marine environment. It's literally like bulldozing a garden to harvest the fruit.
