Sadly, I haven't gotten to it yet. That's embarrassing to admit, but my time for pleasure reading has gotten frustratingly short.

Yeah, Pixar totally "bought" Disney Animation and, to a lesser extent, the theme parks. I'm told John Lasseter has been deeply involved in them. That would be going home for him, he worked at Disneyland as a youth.

I was working at Pixar at the time and a couple of us went out to lunch when the news broke to figure out What It All Meant. We passed Steve's office on the way out and one of our party, who had worked with him since early Apple days,

My fellow countrymen (and women) are all fools! Fools, I tell you! I love my fifteen year old Subaru Impreza hatchback! If I could get a plug in hybrid version of it I'd hand over my money this minute.

The NASA Scientific Visualization Studio, where I used to work, has published the most accurate map ever produced of a solar eclipse totality track. This animation combines Lunar geographic data from the LRO spacecraft with Earth geographic

Several of my professors at the University of Maryland, in the late 70s, had connections to the institutions that had IMPs, like NBS (now NIST), the Pentagon, Mitre, etc. If you asked nicely, they would give you the dialup numbers for the I

As noted in other replies, the ARPANET predates IP and TCP. Although some Internet applications, like Telnet and FTP, were first implemented on the ARPANET, I don't consider it to be the Internet in any meaningful way. The Internet was

I hope this fixes some problems I'm having with CentOS 7 as a desktop. At home, it's fine, but at work, where I'm joined to an Active Directory server for authentication, it doesn't work so well. Winbindd will slow to a

There are some standards for NASA websites, but I think they have more to do with responsibility for content and other bureaucratic matters than design concerns. The group I used to be with, the Scientific Visualization Studio, at svs.gsfc.

They currently offer only one low end model with the non-touch screen. I wish they would offer a few better options with that screen. The regular HD screen meets all my needs and takes much less power.

I'm beginning to think that's the right approach. Or, have a minimal home directory with a .bashrc that sets $HOME at login to an appropriate sub directory. Might not be too robust...

In the environment I'm in, my Linux home directory is shared by multiple systems. Most are CentOS 6, but we're starting to use CentOS 7, too. I'm using the default Gnome 2 Desktop on 6, but Mate Desktop on 7, as I don't

Agreed. It would be interesting to see how genetic engineering might be used to "steer" the changes needed to adapt to life on Mars. I've been concerned about the gravity issue for some time. It's not at all clear that 0
