Both of my apps, Tiny Piano & Tiny Guitar, use the same business model. Free + Ads, then IAP to remove ads and unlock more content. It works great for indie developers because I don't have a big marketing budget to convince a user

Pretty good. Making a free app with ads means that you need to increase engagement (i.e., make the app more fun). That sort of aligns your interests with the user's interests, since the user wants more content, and you want more eyebal

Thanks for the feedback. I am not trying to feign ignorance, and I would like to find a way to properly license the content and compensate the rights holders. However, I've looked into it and I don't currently think there is a lic

In short, I do not, since I could not find an appropriate type of license through HFA or similar outlets. Specifically, the app does not contain any samples from the MP3s. It also does not include song lyrics or any printed sheet music. It

When you say "learn Flash" I interpret it as "learn how to make animations in Adobe Flash Professional, the product with the timelines and keyframes." If your bro wants to make fun animated cartoons, I think it's a

For any wedding photographer that reads this: If YOU were getting married tomorrow and needed to hire someone to be YOUR wedding photographer, would you accept 2.5MP JPEGs as the final product? Or would you demand full resolution JPEGs, alo

You need to find another wedding photographer. This is YOUR wedding day, and you need to have it your way, not HIS way. Do a broader search for wedding photographers, and ask them to give you quotes that include: * >= 12 MP JPEGs from th

I've also read Ferriss. Interesting ideas but I'm not sure how applicable it'd be. I like the idea of work hard for 10 yrs and take "off" a year or two better. :-) If you ever want to meet up and chat, feel free to ping me. I've been doing

While shipping is a great feeling, your job is not yet complete. Now you'll need to market your app, and improve it based on customer feedback. Add more quotes. Add more themes. Polish, polish, polish! Optimize your conversions and distribu

Hi! Search for "Big O notation" on Google. In this case, the O refers to roughly how complex an algorithm is, or how much time it takes to compute the answer. n is the size of the input to the problem. For example, if we are searching for a

Congrats on the success! Can you share a link to your app? Also, do you think the only way to get discovered (for indie devs) is to pick app ideas that will match nicely to keywords that users search for? If you don't have a marketing budge

So then... is Kickstarter the only true way to validate a startup idea? You throw up a cool pitch with some videos and vague promises, and watch the cash roll in. If the cash does indeed roll in, then it's a good idea! Then you get to work,

Yup. If I was teaching a 6 year old to play piano, I wouldn't start by teaching them how to read standard notation. The key is to make it fun and easy in the beginning, so that piano players don't give up! Then, make it harder once they are
