Great fun! The gamification and cutesy badges are basically the opposite of the HN aesthetic, which gives the whole project a fun sort of tongue-in-cheek feel. Because I don't have anything more constructive to say, I'll just poin

Ironing clothes -- actually getting them flat -- on a mountain peak or underwater is interesting because of the difficulty. Finding out the person isn't really ironing, but just pretending, detracts from it and takes it from "that

Rings true. I often write more unit tests in a team than I otherwise would, even if I don't think they add that much value, just because no pull request ever failed review for having too many unit tests, and any time spent arguing abou

I love that people are still doing fun page designs like this. I'd started to forget it was possible.

Yes, it's very hostile to independent contractors, especially with the new rules this year. I'm not a conspiracy guy, but it's amusing to note that Rishi Sunak, under whom the changes came in this year, is related (son-in-law

Misleading, baity headline. Yes, the in-game currency settlement is awful, but the Ars Technica headline writer is making it sound more awful than it really is, because, quote: In addition to the virtual currency, Epic will also be providin

For me, at this point, using exciting technology is like writing a book on exciting paper. I'm not interested in any framework with a philosophy, any language with a fan club, or any library with an opinion of how I should be doing my

Happened to me. Cancelled Sky Broadband, CS reps wouldn't acknowledge it. Got sick of the back-and-forth. Sky don't just make you wait on hold for 30 mins, they play ads at you while you wait. Fuck that. Stopped the direct debit.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't need the company to "accept" my cancellation. I simply need to inform them, in writing, that I have cancelled, and to stop paying. Life's too short to jump through these hoops with a

Bit hacky but you could keep a long-running Bash process and use PROMPT_COMMAND to notify you to start a new block? I love this kind of thing, by the way. I'm sure terminal emulators are not the best we can do, CLI-wise.

They did, sort of. Flash (now rebranded Adobe Animate) can export to HTML5, it just isn't very good. As I recall, it tries to naively export your Flash graphics as HTML5 Canvas drawing commands, but they come out all glitchy because Fl
