Maybe the same as that between football hooligans and actual footballers? No real link, just a Schelling point for dumbassery.

The other day I reported a bug in Safari's regex engine and they asked for a sysdiagnose. I just don't have the energy to perform pointless tasks, so their browser can stay broken. (In case Apple is reading: /.*?x/u.exec

How about this framing: back then, an IDE was called a "microcomputer" and you couldn't just download it for your existing personal communications device; you had to go to the store and buy it as a physical piece of hardware.

I don't know if they are totally separate. Say you like to see XMLHttpRequest and I like to see xml-http-request. If I type xml-http-request, how can a piece of software know how to translate that to XMLHttpRequest? It's not just

A while back I used eval in a matrix multiplication routine, to make it accept matrices of arbitrary size and generate code to multiply them: https://github.com/rogual/mxd/blob/master/Matrix.js#L50 It be

One example is the Ludum Dare site (ldjam.com). They migrated from Wordpress to a custom blog which I would call a SPA. It loads posts from JSON and won't render anything without Javascript.

Surprising. In London at least, when you cross at a crossing, you always have to check for cyclists skipping the lights.

Also, "up" and "down" exist relative to a coordinate system which may be implicit in your culture, but rotated in an adjacent culture.

I wonder if they do it on purpose to create a “moat”. The more time you've invested learning what's clickable, where to force-touch, etc., the more resistant you'll be to leaving the platform.

I'll say this in every Coinbase thread: They did this to me, then I contacted the CFPB -- it's quick and painless via their website -- and within a couple of days Coinbase's support team became coincidentally responsive again

This works, but -- infuriatingly -- also disables the window motion when opening Exposé, which makes that feature more disorienting.

You could do that with an ordinary bank account though, and call the cops on your bank. In fact, you could do it with any service provider who logs your activity. Simply invent an encoding scheme and encode something illegal in your actions

Isn't intent generally a big deal in law? If I argued that your innocent MS Word doc was illegal because it decoded to child abuse images under a special encoding scheme I just made up, I'd be laughed out of court, and rightly so.

If I were you I'd want to really good with plain Python (or Node) before learning a framework, but that's because I'm the kind of person who wants to know how everything works. Once you've written a few CRUD apps you

Almost always Django. Customers love Django Admin, and when they don't, it's really easy to tweak. For dynamic apps that don't fit the Django model, I'll bust out Node.js, and for static sites, just a plain Python script

For me it was the fact that the array ends at the first 'nil' you store in it. 1-based arrays I could get used to; that was just maddening.

There surely seems to be a correlation between great art and mental illness. Van Gogh, Rothko, Frida Kahlo... I guess it depends on your taste in art, though. I'd put Terry in this camp for sure.

I'm challenging myself to use a different language every day. But I've already blown too many good languages; need to save some for the end (assuming the problems get harder).
