We took a different approach on how to engage end-users by designing our own DSL with a compact pre-processor (template engine) for basic control structures: http://apps.axibase.com/chartlab/14cf1974/3/ - Bas

Other than normal distribution assumption, there is another assumption that doesn't hold true for most time series related to human activity, nature, or scheduling. If heteroscedasticity is present, you cannot use the same standard dev

It maybe utopian or too liberal, but I'm against imprisonment for any kind of crime against wealth, be it shoplifting or securities/bank fraud on planetary scale. I think prison should be used for crimes against humanity, e.g. hom

Congratulations, Wikipedia! I found it tremendously useful over the years. I have one suggestion for them. I wouldn't mind making micro-donations for articles of particular quality and relevance to me. Say I find something useful and c

I have a lifelong edu address but it's not what they mean of course. My reading is that you have to be an enrolled student or researcher.

Note that they're sharing this dataset only with *.edu, which is unfortunate for the rest of us. I wish they would allow access to a fraction of the dataset, e.g. 5% of records, for the rest of the community.

It's not going to be as easy as you make it sound - getting rid of the application tier. Think of all the goodness that the Spring framework provides, for example. Do you anticipate all the modules will be taken over by a database?

They might extend the message limit to 10K characters, but they won't be able to stretch their users' attention span which is probably is bound by 2 or 3 sentences anyway.

The more SKUs I have sitting on the shelf, the more price reduction announcements I can make. The difference with Safeway however is that I cannot take those promotions back. On the other hand, why not? Should we expect to see AWS announce

Why not close supermarkets out of respect for labor unions as well, for 2 weeks. I think the solution lies somewhere else - such as automating humans out of retail and services to the extent possible. For instance, speaking of gym, I would

I signed up for a gym that apparently went on an initiative to improve its employee culture. The gym is really nice, not as good as Equinox in Palo Alto, but close enough. So one of the initiatives was to close the gym during holiday season

Unfortunately, CDN analytics is no alternative to GA so it's either/or kind of choice for us. Hence, full proxy type of CDN means that latency is additive.

I like analytics if the price is less than 50ms per request. We use GA and statcounter for analytics anyways. Charts that show how much static traffic you saved are nice, but with bandwidth close to free, it's not a big deal. CDN analy
