Scala is something thats used a lot in data/stream processing and is similar to JS in the functional aspect (more so because there is sum types and pattern matching which is the next awesome thing in functional programming)

They later note most of this traffic is going to a single postgres instance. Having all the keys go to the same range probably helps throughput because they can do a better job of grouping fsync. But that probably depends on the type of dri

The first time I heard about ordered string IDs was Firebase’s push IDs. They had an interesting solution to also address time skew to get better ordering for drivers: https://firebase.blog/posts/2015/02/the-2

I find it interesting that it’s quoted random IDs are bad for performance, because it’s actually better for distributed storage systems because you don’t hotspot on a single node. For example see: https://stackoverflow.com/a

FWIW we simulate exports by instead having `main` call an imported function that blocks until it's ready to return with the needed data. So instead of: `host -> call foo on guest -> return to host` `host -> call guest main -&g

As someone who writes in C++ and uses coroutines everyday for work, I find for our use case this is actually helpful. We use seastar.io a thread per core framework and locks are "async" friendly in that they yield for access inste

Honestly simplicity and having syntax to teach a compiler how to reason about all the lifetimes you need in a real program are at odds. I love rust but I think it's fundamentally complex

My beef with TLA+ is that it's not the same code, so while you're testing the design yes, you aren't testing the implementation of the design, which is just as important (if not harder too) to get right.
