Maybe you should read the competition rules that explicitly specify what input is permitted.

It doesn't. But the "particular text file" is a huge chunk of Wikipedia, so whatever you come up with isn't going to be as "highly specific" as you'd think.

The old hatred flares up every time Windows 10 asks me if I'm really really sure I don't want to default Edge as my browser, or "accidentally" changes it. Nothing has changed.

How many anti-viruses for macOS are there exactly? If it's the most popular one (whatever that is), it probably doesn't change much about the problem.

If you read the linked bug, isn't that exactly what's being proposed: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1678083#c3

They already did. Every major browser allows you to configure the language you speak. Of course it doesn't do much because sites do very stupid things like use geolocation.

Firefox (and I suspect other browsers) allow per-profile configuration of the language, independent of the OS. In the scenarios you describe, it's hard to see how geolocation makes things better, as it has all the same problems, except

This would have been a valid argument...if they supported Vulkan instead. But they do not.

In my opinion a similar difference exists between CUDA and OpenCL. OpenCL takes more code to get something simple going. But at least it doesn't break if you upgrade your gcc or use a different GPU vendor.

Which AFAIK they’re free to do on MacOS as well, they just don’t seem to bother since Apple was doing that work for them I'm not sure. NVIDIA provides updates for CUDA and an extremely limited amount of updates for their graphics sta

Last week. Nvidia releases drivers for cards that the drivers which ship with macos don't support. That's a tiny part of Apple's lineup though.

That is not a macOS specific problem. Because CUDA interacts with the compiler, you can have exactly the same problems on Linux with gcc. (Ironically, using OpenCL avoids this problem)

This is to a large extent because browsers can't make the same assumptions about reasonable graphics drivers being installed as games can.

XBoxes and PlayStations have been getting more game ports than macOS tho, doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

Firefox uses OpenGL to implement OpenGL ES. It also uses OpenGL for hardware accelerated compositing.

What I don't understand is why someone would go to the problems of essentially spending a lot of time breaking their Firefox installation instead of using Tor directly when they care about privacy. Most of the tweaks boil down to turni

Some sites do break. The problem is that by the time you run into one you'll have forgotten you changed this setting.

Does "fairly faithful reimplementation" not reflect this nuance? I'm not sure what you think was missing from the Alpha Go Zero paper in terms of methods, BTW. The whole thing was fairly simple [1] and all the knowledge is di

If you use React you basically can't sue Facebook for infringing your patents, so it is giving them a free pass on your IP.

This is true if only because sane people aren't using React exactly because of this issue.

I think Vigna's claim is that if you ignore the PractRand tests that fail, it passes. (Really!) The code does explain exactly what the issue is, i.e. that the last bit isn't random: This generator passes the PractRand test
