FWIW, the RAM trend is related to power, heat, and the increased speed of disk. SSD performance offsets some of the reduction in RAM, at a much better heat/power cost. Swap is much more viable on SSD than spinning disks, making huge RA

I'm not so sure. I spent the last few nights with my 14 and 16 year old kids, playing Mario Cart, Mario Party, and Mario Bros, and loved every second. Maybe it's our expectations that are off.

It's a common mistake for medium and large companies too. Most budgets are poured into design and development, which encourages adding requirements, more design, etc., not leaving anything for ongoing content development and marketing.

You're right, it's an unsubstantiated opinion. I haven't seen grand examples of design swinging back toward skeuomorphism, though some of the more extreme minimalistic choices have been changing.
