Haha yeah that's probably close to my experience too. But I wouldn't even dare try in other editors. My experience with vim always seems atypical when I read blog posts like this. For me it's a hard-to-kill, reliable text edi

I can boil my preferences for Vim down to a single thing that I can't find anywhere else: it's fast. I can open stupidly large files and not worry, or mash page down and have no lag. It's a pretty much invisible part of my da

If you're just looking to back up your photos off your phone, I use SyncThing to sync them to my server, which works quite well.

SmugMug and Flickr (same company these days) both do if you pay, and I'd trust them far more with photos than any of the bigger companies.

Hah yes this is definitely a part of it. Remote working spreads money around the country rather than concentrating it in expensive city-centres where the rich have stockpiled property. Good riddance to them.

Personally I don't install any OS that forces me to manually create my partitions. Ultimately it's laziness on my part but also frustration: if I've never used the OS before, how should I have an opinion on what partitions I

I'm a Rubyist by profession and I've tried Crystal multiple times but never really felt like I was enjoying it. I can't really put my finger on why, but perhaps it falls into the "uncanny valley" where it looks a lo

Ah ha, someone with the same experience as me. My degree is in Graphic Design, but I immediately ditched the idea of using it after university and took up programming instead because everyone has a fucking opinion when it comes to design.

I'm curious about the spamassassin integration. Do you know of any open source projects currently using it for a web application?

The Times is a News Corp paper so personally I don't trust or read it. Most of the news here in the UK is abysmal but the worst big papers are The Sun and The Daily Mail (probably the one you were thinking of).

My personal experience at GitLab: There's plenty of videos, but the really cool thing is that basically everything has a transcript, or meeting notes, or an agenda. And I think this hits a really nice middle ground that works for diffe

It does actually have mnemonics! However they're mostly for remembering the onyomi/kunyomi rather than how to remember how to draw the kanji, which is something the hiragana/katakana decks have (they use the mnemonics from h

I started learning again last week. This is now attempt #3 to learn Japanese for me and this time I'm coming at it differently to before. I tried using WaniKani in the past, and although it was good it wasn't quite what I needed.

I think of onigiri as a Japanese variant of the Cornish Pasty. I imagine it does have similar roots: making an edible wrapper for food that preserves it until lunch.

Urgh I am not happy about N64 game prices making a return. Honestly most games these days are not worth that amount of money for their content. I, like many people, will most likely just wait until the inevitable 75% off sale on them a few

Generally the minimum for a mortgage here is 5%, though I think it might be more like 10% in the current climate. If you can expand the distance to within 45 minutes you'd get a lot more for your money as that suddenly puts a reasonabl

I'd go further and say that a lot of software coming out of Japan is, if not of a poorer quality, then at least something to be assessed more carefully. This is particularly evident in videogames, where anything for PC is liable to be
